Advice please.
« on: May 18, 2024, 05:28:25 AM »

Morning I’ve wrote other posts recently but just wanted some advice.
I’m 61, been on Kliofem for over 2 years now.
Been spotting for 2 weeks. I’m going for a scan etc 29/5/24.
Doctor told me to stop hrt now but I’m frightened all my symptoms will come back.
Anyone any advice please x

Hi Dotty,
Thanks for replying.
I thought it was strange that the doctor said that as over 2 years ago I had the same thing happening on hrt and had to go for a scan, the doctor I saw then didn’t mention stopping. Can I ask were you still spotting when you went for a scan? X

Hi yes I was . This has happened to me 4 times and I’ve had pipelle biopsies and a hysteroscopy. Nothing sinister was found and I was never given any reason for the bleeding. Last time this happened I was told that the lining of the womb was too thin . x

Hi Dotty, thanks that’s reassured me.
Last time I went nothing sinister was found and the gynaecologist said it was the hrt causing it. She did mention about stopping and said to go cold Turkey which I did.
I was fine for a few weeks then all the symptoms came back so I went back on hrt x

Ive had countless episodes of unscheduled bleeding since being on conti HRT. Ive had several scans and a hysteroscopy. None of the gynaes ever suggested I stop HRT whilst they undertook investigations.

My GP told me I had to stop my topical estrogen,  wouldn't give me a prescription until I'd had the all clear from gyny. He said it was the guidance and wasn't prepared to ignore it. Why don't they all follow the same protocol?

Thanks ladies for replying. Looks like the doctor I saw was probably doing the same as yours Jules in following the guidance. The spotting has now turned into a bleed, been 2 weeks now, I’m just hoping it’s not going to be like this till I go for the scan on the 29th.
Every morning I keep thinking should I not take my hrt to see if the bleeding stops then I end up taking it as I’m worried about the hot flushes etc returning.
Anyone had a similar experience? X

I continued the ovestin cream externally because it had taken months to make headway and I didn't want to lose the progress. Thing is I needed a prescription and he wouldn't give it, that was the point when i was told i shouldn't be using HRT, nobidy told me when I was referred to gyny, so I managed to eke it out for the last week. I stopped the vagifem pessaries. Mine is a mixed up story as the GPs mixed it up but basically I was told the guidance is not to use HRT because its contraindicated to cancer.......which we all know most bleeding doesn't turn out to be.

Hi Merrygoround, thanks for your reply. Oh my goodness what a long wait you have had and a rough time. Sorry to hear about your Auntie.
I was put on the urgent 2 week referral but because I was going on holiday my appointment is for next week.
Im hoping that the spotting is due to the hrt like it was 2 years ago when the same thing happened.
Take care x

you don't need to to stop your HRT. so keep taking it, go for your scan and take it from there. bleeding on HRT is quite common but always needs investigating. you may just need to have your HRT adjusted, you don't need to stop right now.

Hi ladies I’ve been to gynaecology this morning for a scan etc and everything is fine. It was the hrt that was causing the spotting.
The junior doctor asked the consultant when was the right time to come off hrt and she said NEVER 😀.
She’s recommended I go on Estradiol gel and Progesterone capsules.
