Low Estrogen
« on: April 25, 2024, 10:36:52 PM »

Hi everyone,
Got  bloiod tests results back from Menopause Nurse yesterday:

No numbers yet:
Estrogen = low -- taking Sandrina gel  - 0.5 mg
No test given for Progesterone - using Progesterone bio - identical cream:
##**:
However, my GP thinks I'm taking 1mg Sandrina gel and 100 mg Ustrogestron: ###

This omitance has taken me quite a while to state: And, I know I have been extremely stupid. I want to explain my predicament to this forum first:

I  understand that although professional, there are a number of theories and beliefs from members within this forum  and some may display a more "rigid" comment than others. So please, if commenting don't just comment the obvious.

I have been spotting nearly every month for about 12 months. It is very slight spotting- only shows one wipe with toilet paper once.

However, the last 2/3 months  I have also been  showing twice per month (as above).

# - I have contacted this forum previously with the same concern.
And, I do understand that members have suggested to use Ustrogestron as a Progesterone:

# - I have not been able to use Ustrogestron due to really bad side effects
And, in my wisdom i have continued with the bio-identical Progesterone cream (private prescription).

# - My Menopause Nurse has organised a 2 wk fast track scan which is late due to the Specialist requiring more information from the Menopause Nurses referral:

# - Meantime, it was suggested I take another type of Progesterone? But I need a bio-identical Progesterone and there only seems to be Ustrogestron on the market? I know I need to "balance" the correct ratio- Estrogen/Progesterone.

I'm very concerned regarding the bleeding - I also have symptoms of a very sore Vagina lining which can cause itching (sporadically).

##Incidently,  I am 64 yrs old. I have had long covid  - which can apparently affect hormone levels?  ** My Thyroid levels have gone from good ( middle range) to: TSH ( Thyroid stimulation hormone) - 5.7 (range 0 - 5) and T4 = just below range. Could this also be a contributing source to my Estrogen levels (as well as my incorrect level  of Estrogen/Progesterone intake) ?.

Finally, I know I need Professional support and advice with this which I will definitely pursue (NHS) but what would really help is if there are any members from this forum who may have experience "looking outside the box" from the NHS protocol?

Can I say Thank-you to all you lovely and knowledge members who have helped not just me but thousands of other members. X

Don’t give yourself a hard time; GPs often between ignorance and attitude don’t encourage us to share/confidence !

You are where you are.

It’s great you’ve got a quick scan to know where that is. Meantime extremely light is less worrying than heavy (at risk of stating obvious!).

Outside the nhs/body-Id; have a look at Mary G’s v interesting thread in alternatives ‘is this the right place…’

Wrensong is font of knowledge on thyroid and May be able to point you to some threads.

Utro is the most body-Id prog available on nhs. Did or might you try it Vaginally? Reduces side effects for many as less systemic absorption.

‘Low’ (whatever that means) oestr in a blood test is less significant than any symptoms. If you do want to incr oestrogen, anyway need scan and sorting prog first …(sorry again if too obvious!).

The lists for meno clinics in nhs are long so get referral so you’re at least in q. You cd maybe ask for it to be urgent by saying you’re v worried about bleeding.

Good luck xx

Thank you  so much Hollyboll for your reply,
You have really put my mind at rest.
It's funny no matter how qualified we are we still need so much support and help to address things objectively:
Your expertise has helped me a lot and I am now a lot calmer!.
I will definitely take your advice.

There is also Lutigest, and Cyclogest (off label) micronised pessaries! They keep telling me that I need to be on Utrogestan, but I can't use that, and I don't know why they keep going on about it.

If it has to be bio identical I think your options are cyclogest or lutigest. There are some on here who have cyclogest prescribed by a gp so it's worth asking. If they won't you need a referral to a meno clinic so perhaps get on the waiting list now. Why do you need bio identical? I get side effects from utro but not from noresthisterone. Which others have you tried? Hopefully the bleeding will just be from a thickened lining but perhaps you need the scan results before you can make decisions. Is a mirena an option? Would utro on a sequi regime be an option? I use a 6 week sequi regime to give me more time off utro.

Hi
Thank-you for your reply. It has really helped.
I know I'm post menopausal, but is this the reason my Menopause Nurse Practioner only tested my Estrogen levels and not my Progesterone?

A small number of women seem to need progesterone to feel good but for mostvof us it's what we have to put up with to have oestrogen. She thinks you're taking an adequate amount to protect your lining so no need to test it.
