Stopped patches after Breast scare.
« on: April 13, 2024, 04:37:37 PM »

I was tried on Evorel Conti over a year ago, but stopped after 4 months due to breast pain/thickened area, urgent breast clinic referral and all was, thankfully OK. Suffered horrible, constant low back + hip pain, bloating, sweats, mood swings, irregular flooding periods, fatigue for next 6/7 months (GP’s refused to refer me anywhere, saying an Xray showed degenerative changes, so it’s ‘age’. After particularly bad bleed (tampons, pads + incontinence pants!) GP sent me to Gyn as I’m now 56!!
A hysteroscopy + scan ‘scanty’ but OK.  So, got Mirena + Evorel 50 about 5 months ago. Pain levels unchanged, but sweats, bloats eased. Then the breast symptoms started again - worse than before alongside neck/shoulder pain and numbness in foot! Back to urgent breast clinic - all, thankfully, OK. I stopped taking the patches, so am bleeding again and have an appointment at Gyn in 2 months (they won’t bring it forward). Getting no-where with GP, who still says the back/neck/shoulder pain is ‘age’ and won’t refer me for imaging as I had x-ray 18 months ago!!!
Anyway, I’m guessing the new bleed is due to me binning the patches - just have Mirena, which I will speak to GP about.
Sorry re long post - I’m just fed up. Tired of constant pain, exhaustion, GP fobbing me off and generally not being listened to. Definitely will NOT take any HRT again after 2 terrifying cancer pathway breast referrals.
Does anyone have any success with herbal/natural supplements, or any suggestions to get GP to find out what the hell is going on with this back/neck pain.  I truly don’t even recognise myself anymore!
Rant over LOL!

U rant away.  It mayB that your Health Authority won't accept referrals from GPs within a certain number of months, i.e. 2 years.  This is however something that the GP could have explained, mayB ask the Practice manager.

As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out; nostrils, vagina, skin, deep in the ears ... as well as muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Have U tried pain relief ?

There are other ways of delivering HRT though patches means that the product avoids the liver etc..  Gynae probably isn't the best way to go, I would be pushing for a referral to a dedicated menopause clinic, there are waiting lists both on the NHS and in the private sector.

Herbals aren't always wise, they are unregulated and some find that if their own hormones surge any benefit is lost.

U could self refer to a physiotherapist for advice.  As well as changing your GP!

Agree with CLKD.
If herbs were a good remedy , you wouldn’t be able to purchase the 100001 different supplements, marketed towards women and menopause. That said, some find relief from homeopathic remedies, under the guidance of a qualified and registered practitioner.

I would speak to a different GP and push for an MRI. That back pain needs investigating I would think?

Yoga and complimentary therapies might work? But defo asked to be referred to a menopause specialist. Can you afford private ( not that you should have to!)
