HRT and ER+ breast cancer ( 15years ago)
« on: March 19, 2024, 10:59:40 AM »

Hi there! Hope you are all well! I'm just after some info of your experiences please!  :)
I had ER+ breast cancer 15 years ago. Stage 1, I had a lumpectomy and 3 weeks radiotherapy and 6 years tamoxifen. I'm 56 now and well into the throes of menopause.
Has anyone any info on what HRT they've been able to take please?
UK doctors are reluctant to prescribe anything and I've been doing my own research to see what might be possible!
Thanks in advance, and info is much appreciated!!  :)

How did U get on with the Tamoxifen?

Quality of Life is important.  Which symptom would you like to ease first?  There is a school of thought that women should have the option of taking HRT if necessary, if it's so dangerous and knowing that most of us will require some kind of regime, why aren't we advised to have mastectomy .........

I can't remember the name of the Surgeon who recommends HRT for ladies who have had treatment.

Browse round.  Ask away.

Hi! Thanks for your reply!  :)
I seemed to be ok with the Tamoxifen, no real side effects.
I've read  Oestrogen Matter by Dr Avrum Bluming and seen his podcasts etc. It's also the impact on heart disease, osteoporosis and dementia which are factors in considering HRT too.
Brain fog and not thinking straight are one of the main factors for me. I'm struggling to do my job now and I just want to leave. Also the joint aches and pains are are problem. I've always exercised every day but really struggle with that too.  :)

I don't think there's a definitive answer to this one. Quality of life is important but then if you take it and get cancer again you'll wish you hadn't. Sorry, not much help  :(. I felt so bad before hrt I'd probably have taken it despite the risk but others might not have done. Good luck, either way it's going to be a difficult decision.

We make the decision with the information we have at that time.  I was asked during treatment whether I wished that I had eaten differently  :-\. well nope.  As a recovering anorexic I ate what was possible ........ not much choice really.

I have cut out processed foods in recent years.  [long story short].  I always use the analogy, that the bus might run me over B4 the possibility of cancer returning.  And why would it  :-\.  Also U may not require HRT for many years and you find out that your symptoms ease anyway.
