Hi. I've been on Vagirux for a few years. It has sorted out my recurring uti issue but lately I've had pain and irritation externally. I've requested estrogen cream which I now have but my intention was to use them together, cream externally only and Vagirux internally as it's not messy, however I've been told i should only use one or the other otherwise I'll be getting too much estrogen. I've tried moisturising cream and replens but they haven't helped. I'm also on estrogen gel, mirena and testosterone. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would it be too risky to use both? X

Many of us use internal and 'ovestin' for external use without problems.  I find that 'ovestin' is helpful internally with a smear on the outer labia when required.

It is not at all risky to use both. Lots of us on here use both Vagifem plus an estriol cream externally, and we are still all here. Local oestrogen products contain a minute amount of oestrogen compared to systemic products, or the amount we used to produce naturally. What IS it with these medics? What do they think will happen?

Given that you are already on other forms of HRT I can understand the warning not to use both products together. But as you will only need a small amount of the cream to be effective I would go ahead and use both. One tube of Ovestin can last me up to 3 to 4 months used alongside Vagifem every day, I am not on any other form of HRT. 
Its your choice but I wouldn't give up on Vagifem/Vagirux and Ovestin as they are essential in treating VA used together.

Just to add that if you are in the UK it will be an estriol cream and not an estradiol cream that you may be offered.  Estradiol cream is not available here.

I was using vagifem twice weekly for a year. I increased to alternate nights and started using ovestin externally every night and after 4 months I had a bleed and waiting for scan. I've had to stop the vagifem. Ive not had a bleed since. I'm not on any other hrt either. So it clearly does get in the system depending on how much you use. I'm going to reinstate it next week but only twice weekly.

A member said on the forum last week you can slap as much Vagifem and Ovestin on as you want. I thought that advice was reckless because we all react differently to what we put in our bodies and still have to be cautious and not to over dose on supposedly safe treatments.

There are many posts on here of women who's vaginal atrophy is not straight forward, for many women it is but not all.

I use Vagifem and a smear of Ovestin every day, meno specialist said it was perfectly safe to do so.

It's clearly not safe for everybody and there's so much conflicting advice from all sorts of medics. I don't think anybody should be telling anyone what to take or do medically speaking. They've no idea of their history or other medication.  It's fine to describe what has worked for yourself but not safe to just follow someone else's medicine routine or dosage. I've not had my scan yet, though I had one in September and it was normal,  I'm hoping it's as my GP thinks, just too high an estrogen dosage but twice I've had bleeding with vagifem so it does get in the system.

I totally agree with ayesh and jules we are all different with our needs and maybe other meds..it doesnt matter..wether its a cream or full hrt..peeps shouldn't be taking medical advise unless you have spoken to someone qualified medically..its def not a one size fits all situation menopause that i have learnt
