Mirena coil removal issues
« on: February 10, 2024, 04:13:12 PM »

Hi All

I'm all new to posting on here so here goes, I've been on Elleste duet on and off now for over a year or so , last May I thought Id try the Mirena coil and oestrogen as I thought this would be a good way of contraception and HRT, it was ok at first then few months I just didn't feel right I went to my doctors and she examined me and later found out I had a bacterial infection which I was prescribed antibiotics I've never had anything like that before, I had it removed in September 23 and my stomach hasn't been right since, bloated and pain doctor thinks it IBS which I've never had that before my diet is plain and boring tbh so I don't get that  :-\ I've gone back on Elleste duet 1mg been on it nearly two months, side effects seem to be harsher this time around anxiety depression overwhelming fatigue, I m hoping its going to settle as Elleste have worked before,
Has anyone else out there had issues like this after the Mirena coil has been removed ? also would trying a testosterone gel help with the fatigue ?
Any help guys will be much appreciated  :)

Hi.   :welcomemm:

Wondering why you considered using HRT initially?

Did the ABs clear any residual infection following removal of the Mirena?

IBS is a broad cover for anything that a GP can't be bothered to test for.  How R your symptoms?

4 me it's slow transit in that I can go several days without a poo which makes me feel bloated, nauseated and tired.  To counteract the slowness my DH cooks a lot more veg. with chicken; stir fried when necessary.  We have 2 veg at least every night for tea with whatever .......

I've cut out processed food stuffs because they were causing bloating and nausea.  No more shop bought cakes, pastries, croissants etc..  Years ago I could eat do-nuts etc. but the fats and hidden sugars have made me quite ill at times.  I eat white bread toast with pate for lunch or a brown bread with 'bits' in ......... that's about all the processed that doesn't affect my gut.  Yet  ::)

MayB put the product name into the search box and read the associated threads.  Make notes ;-).  Also make a note of your overall diet for 3 days to see what you can alter the may improve gut health.  For many years I drank at least 2 pots of Actimel daily which really did help bowel transit.

I'm 46 and I wanted to try HRT due to lack of energy depression etc, it did work but my mistake was switching to mirena which has just led to stomach issues, that is a good point I just assumed the antibiotics worked and cleared the infection, I've had lots of blood tests ultrasound on my stomach and all is clear, I'm waiting now to be referred for further investigation,
I'm regular regarding the toilet I eat cereals high in fibre & fruit not a big eater really tbh, I do like my chocolate crisps but not in large amounts and I've been having Actimel drinks too, I just feel bloated, tired and in places my stomach feels hard,

Thankyou for you reply and advice much appreciated  :)

Gut issues can cause tiredness . How R your VitD levels?  MayB add a capsule to your daily routine, it won't do any harm at this time of year.  Get advice from a pharmacist, as I believe that it's better to take a dedicated rather than multi-vit.

I doubt from how you describe your bowels that you have IBS.  This can present in constipation, or a difficulty in passing stools with comfort, or 'the runs'.  All or some of the symptoms which can become 'normal' for the sufferer.  Or awkward and restricting in terms of work commitments, socialising etc..  If I'm going away from the house and feel that I 'need to go', will my bowel empty - will it heck  >:(  ::)

Do U have background or continual stomach, gut, bowel pain?  Loose or firm but never the same?  Anything out of the ordinary with bowels should be reported and checked at an appropriate clinic.  I've had slow transit for years, diagnosed by a gynaecologist of all people  ::)

Testosterone shouldn't be considered until other methods have stabilised.  Otherwise how will you know what might/not be working?   An appt at a dedicated menopause clinic, taking a list of concerns with you, might be a consideration.

Is the depression cyclical?  I would sob in the night leading up to a bleed, even if a period wasn't due.  Sob, sob - next morning, a bleed .  Also my bowel would alter in the week B4 a period, sometimes constipated with bloating; as I aged 10 mins B4 a bleed I would have to 'run, even if a period wasn't due!  Hormones  >:(

Nowt wrong with chocolate!  Black is supposedly better, me, I have a stick of 'twirl' as pudding ;-).  Eaten with a meal rather than as a snack chocolate and other hidden fats are absorbed differently if the stomach isn't empty.  Apparently  ::).  I read it somewhere recently but being menopausal, can't remember where: the article probably lays around here somewhere.

Sorry you're suffering.  I wonder if the problems have arisen due to the antibiotics killing your good stomach flora?  Maybe try increasing the prebiotic and probiotic foods in your diet?  Have a google online to find the foods that suit you the most.  I think dark green leafy vegetables are supposed to be very good for health.  I hope you feel better soon, it's miserable to feel like you do.
