Testosterone levels
« on: January 30, 2024, 05:54:33 PM »

Hi Ladies,

I have done a medichecks blood test for the below.
My SHBG is always high. My Total T is at the top of the range , but my free T is low. I have started T again after a few attempts a while ago and have been taking it 3x a week for the last month.
I did the test 1 week after starting. My Gp thinks I have been on T for a year ( which I haven't)  , but has never suggested testing my levels. I just wanted some reassurance that my levels are ok, as I am not sure whether the ranges are conservative or I should be concerned that my Total T is near the upper end of the range. There is no point in seeing my GP as he hasn't  a clue about T and thinks women should come off HRT after 5 years.

Estrogen 385 pmol/

testosterone 1.3 nmol/L range 0.101 - 1.42

Free T      0.006 nmol/ range 0 - 0.02

SHBG     >200

Many thanks Pepperminty x

Hi pepperminty

You’ve just written my post for me  🙂

My results are as follows:

.                        17/11/23.                       01/02/24

Oestradiol.           65.5.                               47.6

Testosterone.        1.3.                                 0.8

SHBG.                   112.                               183

I use three pumps of Oestrogel a day and a small pea size blob of Tesogel a day and have three month blood tests.

I have a follow up with my GP next week so will see what she has to say.  Fortunately she specialises in menopause.

Thanks

Hi Butty,

let me know what she says. Your estrogen does seem a bit low?

Hi,
Did anyone get an answer on their high shbg?
Mine is still high. Oestrogen is 900ish but transdermal. I'm waiting for my testsoterone results. Nobody can answer the shbg question for me though. I'm baffled.

I think it is the level of free testosterone that is important as it is that which is available to the body to use. This will be reduced by the high level of SHBG. There are various things you can try to lower SHBG e.g. vitamin D supplementation.  I think it can also be affected by hormonal contraception and too much oestrogen in HRT
