Aha, it must that VA watery discharge!
« on: January 16, 2024, 12:54:48 PM »

Hello you lovely supportive ladies,

So after reading a lot on this forum, posting and getting your helpful responses I think I’ve had a lightbulb moment about what is giving me the most problems with my VA, it is the watery discharge. I believe this might be what is causing a lot of the vulval redness and soreness. I believe this is like if you leave a wound covered up too long and it ends up soggy and the edges break down (maceration - I used to work in wound care). I really do feel way to wet rather than dry - just the wrong kind of wet I suppose (I have no infection btw).

So questions…

1. Has anyone found that the watery discharge ever goes away?
2. How to you all prevent it causing more soreness?

Xx

Use more local estrogen. You're right, the  watery discharge does not lubricate, it has the opposite effect washing away any moisturise you may have accumulated and leaving you sore. I use Ovestin externally and Vagifem internally every night. Also I use Bepanthen as a barrier cream over the Ovestin as it sometimes stings and irritates.

Thanks Diedre, does the watery discharge ever stop or reduce with treatment?

Yes it does, just up your dosage for a while until you're comfortable again.

I found it went away with antibiotics/antibiotic cream/thrush treatment but came back again.

I haven't had it again since I started using vagifem, even when it was taking a while to get the vagifem dose right.

So is it pointless trying to use a vaginal moisturiser? Are there any that stick or do they make matters worse in this case?

I’m on Intrarosa and I don’t know whether increasing the dose would work like Vagifem. I have got some Imvaggis estriol pessaries still so maybe add one of each each night?

Can you mix Intrarosa and Imvaggis?

No idea really. I wouldn’t have thought they would interact, just wondering how much stuff you can throw up there. X

I agree sfreesto I think your theory could be right - it makes sense - if you feel you are too wet just pat dry
