What are sympotoms if you take too much oestrogen??
« on: November 27, 2023, 03:19:54 PM »

I've recently had my patch dose increased, was 25 and temporarily advised to use 2 patches (to give 50) while they sort either a 37.5 from Estradot (not happening due to shortages!!) or a patch that can be cut in half (was advised not all could be cut)

In the meantime I've started an odd feeling that I thought could be cystitis, but now more like a period discomfort, just feels my lower pelvic area is 'heavy' and a bit uncomfortable. I've not had a period or bleed for 10+ years.

Could this just be a reaction to the extra oestrogen do you think? There's a 3 week wait at my GP surgery, not sure if I should worry and try and get an earlier appointment, or just wait it out!! I've gone back to 1 patch for now anyway......

I’ve been told by a pharmacist, my GP and a meno specialist to cut my estradot patches in half. They all seem to think it’s not a problem. I have even cut them into quarters before.

As for the period discomfort issue, I’m sure someone will be along with advice.

Definitely, I cut my Estradot in half. Private consultants seem to recommend it a lot.

I know my mum had a similar issue after she had an op for a prolapse she had high dose vaginal oestrogen and is 20 years post meno and she started bleeding and cramping and she said it felt like she was having periods again. She had scans to check all was ok and was determined too high an oestrogen dose. So it was lowered and symptoms resolved.

Thanks both!! The GP said some patches don't have the dosage evenly distributed, so in my case I need to have a very stable amount as she thinks a variation could contribute to issues I've had with migraine. So I think they've moved me to Evorel, which can be cut, just waiting to pick up them up.
It sounds like it could just be a reaction to the increased dose then, fingers crossed!!

As I seem to b very sensitive to hrt, my GP is fine for me cutting my evorel 25s. This works well for me and is very possible. It's just a case of lining up the dots and cutting corner to corner if using 1/4 patch to allow for the curved shape. Good luck! 😊
