Sensitive teeth/Tepe/Sensodyne !!!
« on: December 01, 2022, 03:56:38 PM »

Hello ladies
I did a search and saw some of you had suffered from sensitive teeth so I just wondered if I could run this past you...

I've been advised by my dentist to use corsodyl gel on Tepe to address a sensitive tooth issue (which was a little sore if I scratched it near the gum line if food got caught there, but other than that it was not a big problem, but I decided to rub sensodyne onto it before going to bed last week, and it hurt, so I went to the dentists). The dentist checked various things and was not concerned that there was something else more worrying going on (no abcess, decay etc) and said to use corsodyl gel on tepe brushes and go back in two weeks. The dentist said I should brush my teeth first, then do the Tepe interdental brushing dipped in corsodyl, then I can rinse with mouthwash. But I'm now concerned the corsodyl gel will be washed straight off? (if there are any dentists out there, how long should I leave it on for it to have an effect?) And does it need to be rinsed off at all, or can it be left on? Does anyone have any experience of this?

nb Also, I'm using sensodyne rapid repair, which is ok if I just brush with it, and doesn't. hurt at all, but if I rub it onto the tooth beforehand (as is suggested on the tube) it makes my tooth hurt. I've tried other toothpastes today out of curiosity and they do not do this. Also researched sensodyne and lots of people on internet saying  it made otherwise health teeth sensitive when they used it?! Wondering if I should switch toothpastes, or just avoid the rubbing thing? Sorry for all the questions!!! Thanks!

I can't see the sense in rinsing away the corsodyl. I use the mouth wash version on my sensitive teeth and occasionally on sore infected gums, but I use a ball of cotton wool soaked in the mouth wash and apply directly to the area, it's amazing how quickly it gets rid of infections.

I’ve never used the gel, but I imagine it works in the same way as the mouth wash. I use a Colgate sensitive toothpaste and the dentist once prescribed fluoride toothpaste when I first started to suffer from sensitive teeth.
He also mentioned after cleaning my teeth to rub some toothpaste on the sore area, a hygienist also said don’t rinse too thoroughly after brushing at night leaving some toothpaste to help with sensitive gums.

I rely on the toothpaste to keep my sensitive teeth from getting sore and the corsodyl for infections.

TEETH !!!  >:(

As an aside I read all the 'Colgate' boxes a few years ago, I stood in the supermarket and it took me 20 mins..  All the ingredients were exactly the same even though the boxes had been printed with different 'advice'.   :-\

I have used some form of Sensodyne pastes for a few years.  I always have wondered, since fluoride was added to pastes, how it worked when 1 rinsed the mouth anyway.   ???  surely all that goodness is washed away?

My dental surgeon suggests putting the Sensodyne paste onto the gum with a finger then leave for 10 mins B4 rinsing.  Fingers are softer than tipee brushes which I use several times a day, about 10 mins after eating.  I want to leave some flavour from my grub after all  ::)

I have for years used a soft baby brush in the morning with paste and a firmer one in the evenings, plus the tipees in the day.

Hi, I have no problems with Sensodyne and have been using it for years.  However, check the contents on the tube as you may be using one containing SLS (Sodium lauryl sulfate), which you maybe sensitive to, as I am.

I use the basic original which does not contain this.

Hope that helps.

I don’t think the Sensodyne repair and protect has SLS in it. I use it as advised by my dentist. Instead of removing a molar and replacing with a crown, he very carefully filled it. However, it was very sensitive. He checked it and was satisfied that there was nothing to be concerned about and advised me to brush with Sensodyne toothpaste, but not to rinse afterwards. It did take a while for the sensitivity to subside, but it has thanks to the toothpaste.

Unfortunately it does contain SLS.  I think there is only one of their toothpastes that doesn't, and that's the original, which I use.

You can tell if you are allergic to it as it produces painful sore spots but no ulcer.  The roof of my my mouth was the worst area for me.

Does any1 have an electric pulsating toothbrush ?  I am thinking of asking my Dental Surgeon if it's OK to treat myself ........ having had a lot of intensive, deep probing work done in recent months, I need to know it's not going to more harm than good!

Because of your history definitely get advice first before treating yourself to this type of toothbrush.
My friend had a similar history to yours and she wasn't able to use an electric toothbrush because of her extremely sensitive gums. She used to go to the dentist every six months and had to have antibiotics every time which was a disaster as far as I was concerned, but that's another story!
