heavy bleed and fluid in womb
« on: November 12, 2023, 09:18:42 AM »

Hi all,

I haven't posted in a while, but just wondered if anyone else has had similar problems.

I'm post meno and have got my gel down to 1 pump a day as my estrogen levels are high, which my gp doesn't seem overly worried about. I was initially on 3 pumps a day until August.

I went for an ultrasound last friday and the radiologist 'couldn't see my womb' clearly as she said there seemed to be fluid in my womb. I hadn't had a bleed or anything until this Friday when I had a heavy bleed with a clot coming away and tummy cramps, just like a period. Now it is just light bleeding.

My gp has referred me on a 2 week pathway for a specialist; I'm obviously worried and just wondered if any ladies had been through anything similar.

Thanks for any help.

Hi disco
Women’s bodies eh, so damm
complex!

I don’t know what the fluid could be, but perhaps a cyst which has leaked or a fibroid? Equally these could account for the bleed.

A womb biopsy and hysteroscopy, should be able to give you more information for definite.

Have you had either of these procedures before disco?

With the biopsy, they take a small pipette of womb lining for examining under the microscope and for the hysteroscopy, they insert a long telescopic instrument though the vagina, pump some fluid through and you get to see the inside of your womb on a big screen ( it’s quite fascinating!) It’s an excellent way for them to see what’s going on. You may not even need the hysteroscopy, I don’t know.

I won’t say “ try not to worry” because we do. But do keep us updated and as a means of support.

Maybe some of the lovely ladies on here, have experienced something similar and can share with you.

Hiya Nas,

I've been following your posts and I'm so pleased that you've got your pre-op tomorrow isn't it? Your in my thoughts xxxx

No, I haven't had either of the procedures before but I don't mind I just want to know what's going on and then get it sorted to be honest. And I will update everyone.

Thanks so much for replying in spite of everything you have going on at the moment.

You take care Nas xxxx

We all all support each other on here and our worries/fears etc are all valid..despite what others have going on  :)

Hang on in there.. those procedures are usually the way they try to get to the bottom of gynae issues. If they do refer you for hysteroscopy, take pain relief before and after.. ( you may feel crampy) Each woman has a different experience, but mine have been excellent. No pain, just uncomfortable at times.

Anyway, get me gynae Nas, banging on! I’m jumping ahead of myself here!

Keep us updated okay? X

Hi

Just to make you aware, personally I had a hysteroscopy and biopsy and it was the most painful traumatic thing I’ve ever endured! I’d taken painkillers before but it felt like they were ripping my womb out. I’ve got PTSD as a consequence 🙈
I know some women find it virtually painless but a hospital won’t offer you sedation until it’s too late.

I hope your investigations go well x

Nik, that sounds an awful experience for you,  but we have to remember that each woman’s experience is very different.

Much of it depends on the skill of the medic who is performing the procedure.

Hi Nik

I just want to echo Nas' comments. I'm so very sorry for your traumatic experience.

If I do need one I will ask for sedation as although I've had two children my pain threshold is zero so thanks for the heads up.

Take care Nik xxx

Hi.  I needed a hysteroscopy a few years ago and I just knew I couldn't cope so I asked for and got a general anaesthetic.   It was the right thing for me, but we are all different x

Hi suzysunday

If I need one I will ask for a general. I'm a whimp when it comes to pain!

I asked for a general for colonoscopy a couple of years ago, was told it would have added an extra six weeks to the wait time which I couldn't tolerate with the level of anxiety I had at the the time. Although probably best to hold out for general rather than have to stop half way through.

Although a general anaesthetic wasn't offered to me at the hospital they were really good about it when I asked and I didn't have to wait too long x

Hi Nas,

Thanks so much for thinking of me, what with everything you have going on at the moment as well.

I've just got back in; they were really lovely, she done a biopsy there and then, and its being sent off and I'm back there in 7 days. She did say however that she said she didn't think it was anything sinister and that she said the fluid was just blood as I did bleed 7 days later after the scan. So I'm pleased about that. She agreed with me that she thought the womb lining had thickened due to unopposed estrogen, so the cyclogest wasn't doing it's job for me.

I came off hrt last tuesday (and I feel crap obviously) and I would obviously like to go back on hrt. She told me to have a think about having a coil fitted but to be honest I really don't want the coil. I've read some stories good and bad and I really don't think the coil is for me.

So moving forward I don't know what to do about the hrt other than try without or hysterectomy.

Do you have everything packed and sorted for Friday?

You've been in my thoughts everyday. This time next week it will all be over for you.

Thanks so very much for thinking of me xxx

Hey disco,
That all sounds positive, do you feel a little more reassured now? I do hope so. I am sure as you say, the oestrogen isn’t being opposed properly, which obviously poses a dilemma for you.

Hysterectomy could be the answer to all of this for you..

The coil is like marmite I think, you either love it or hate it. If you don’t want one, don’t. It’s your body.

If it’s any consolation buddy, I won’t be allowed HRT either,  after today’s events. I won’t share why publicly, as I do not want to worry other women.

Disco, there is one thing that is certain in life ( after death and taxes ) and that is, I am coming back as a MAN!!! 🧍‍♂️🕺🕺🕺🙋‍♂️🙋‍♂️🙋‍♂️🙋‍♂️ xx

Packed ? Not yet!! Thinking about it! 🙂
