Hrt dosage problems
« on: November 10, 2023, 07:12:20 PM »

Hi all.
I'm struggling with dosage of hrt.
I was on 75mg of hrt but my hair started falling out and I was getting severe joint pain. So i decreased to 50mg. It's taken care of the night sweats and hot flushes but I'm getting itchy skin and a dry vagina.  So I upped back up to 75mg and my hair within 2 days started falling out again and my sleep went all over the place and I feel constantly angry and the joint pain has returned. I just don't know what to do.
Estrogel used to work fine and then it seemed to stop working. I tried it again. Fine during the day but horrendous night sweats at night.
Has anyone had any luck with supplements that I could maybe add in? Or a different method of hrt I can try.

Get thyself some appropriate vaginal atrophy treatment.   'vagifem' or 'ovestin' seem to work for many ladies along with, when necessary, 'sylc' or 'yes' mositorros.  Some use 'vagifem' internally with 'ovestin' on the outer labia.

Thanks clkd. I've read about vaginal atrophy but I didn't know if I had that as its not always dry. Kind of intermittent. Does it mean that you're not getting enough oestrogen from your hrt?

Some people need local oestrogen as well as hrt to control va. I'd suggest using local oestrogen  now and cutting a piece off a 75 patch til you find the optimum for your other symptoms. Then reduce the local oestrogen and see if it's controlled by hrt. You could get your doc to take a look if you're not sure.

Thanks Sheila, that's a fab idea about cutting a piece off a 75 patch till I get the right dose. Will try using the local oestrogen and the patch and see how it goes.
