Genital appearance
« on: November 04, 2023, 10:53:56 PM »

I am 65. I have VA and I have been using Premarin estrogen cream for almost 3 months.  Loading dose for 2 weeks and after, 2-3 times a week. In between application, I use a moisturizer. I was fine in September but now the need to pee has come back.. Why ?? Also, I noticed that I cant see the vagina opening...Its like the urethra take all the space... Is other woman like that also ?? I am very upset now......

thanks

Morning.  Each body is different.  Also as we age appearances may well alter.   I never look at mine  ::) though we are advised to do so.

I would up the Premarin to every night for another 2-3 weeks.  As hormone levels rise and fall, the body may dry.  The vagina needs constant TLC so adding an extra week isn't unusual for many of us.

Which moisturiser R U applying?  Let us know how you get on.

Its obvious the dose you are using is not enough. Apply every day until you feel you can finally reduce the dose yourself.
It can take months of every day treatment to work. My regime is every day Vagifem with Ovestin and moisturiser applied topically on the outside.

It helps to read others experience on this awful condition. I've tried to post a link but its not working but I would suggest putting some words in the search box and learn all you can about Vaginal Atrophy.

Could you have a bladder prolapse? This would mean that your urethra is lower down than it used to be and has to be pushed up a bit to see the vaginal opening. This can also give you the urge to pee more. I have a bladder prolapse myself.

Keep on with the premarin for the VA. I'm not sure about increasing dosage as I'm on vagifem but good advice from Aleysha and CLKD.

One can use Vagifem every night when necessary.

Thank you everybody. Yes, I will continue the estrogen cream and I use Gynatrof moisturizer. No, I dont have any prolapse. https://www.abc.net.au/news/health/2016-02-04/what-happens-to-your-vagina-as-you-age/7113200. In this link, they talk a bit about vulvar & vagina changes over the years...

Not the best or helpful piece written regarding the symptoms of Vaginal Atrophy in the link, celinecelica. There is so much more to VA that she could have included.
Nothing quite like reading the experiences of those of us who suffer this disgusting condition and I have learned more from reading the stories here on this forum than anywhere else.

I noticed change in appearance. Atrophy really and some fusing. It's distressing.  I read Ayesha's experience and upped dosage and started using ovestin externally daily which has helped. Nobody tells you about these things do they.

I hadn't looked down there in years but when first experiencing extreme vaginal discomfort I thought it best to have a look and what a shock it was seeing how I had gradually over the years literally disappeared, I thought I must be dying, it freaked me out to be honest.

The Vagifem and Ovestin has brought me back to how I looked before the degeneration of the tissues and I even got to thinking why cosmetic companies hadn't thought of adding the ingredients to a face cream because the reversal of a disappearing vagina is really quite amazing, just a daft thought  ???

I could do with some. My estrogen levrl shelved off suddenly. I'm not sure how safe it is on the face.

Ayesha,  I never looked down either, so I'm not actually sure what I'm trying to get back to, I know the feeling though. I don't think you notice it till it gets bad and the worse but happened quickly. And when a GP talks about it like its just what happens you don't realise it doesn't happen to everyone and that there's something that can help.

Me neither and no women in my family mentioned it, maybe they're ok or it's not something you talk about. Sometimes I think id be better not looking down there. Best not to know!
