Yellow discharge
« on: October 28, 2023, 05:28:01 PM »

Hello.
I've been on Evorel 25 and 100mg oral uttogestan for three months and have had a yellow discharge from about the second day.  Previously I was on Everol Conti for three months, no discharge but bleeding, hence the change of regime.
I've read that discharge can be due to hormonal imbalance, so gradually upped my oestrogen to 2 x 25mg, but discharge still there.
I contacted my Dr through an online consultation, and they said that a discharge was normal on HRT. I haven't seen it mentioned in any online info, and wondered whether anyone what has it? I'm having to use panty liners, and due to (vinegary) odour and amount,  sometimes change it before I go to bed, which doesn't seem normal.
I couldn't respond to my GP as they close off the consultation if you don't reply straight away (!) so would need to start the whole consultation process again.  I'm not sure whether I should just put up with it (as the Dr is unconcerned) or take it further.
Any thoughts appreciated.

A thin discharge can be a symptom of GSM (Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause). I would not put up with it, and would not describe any discharge as normal on HRT. There may be a return of natural secretions however, but this is obviously not that. A symptom checklist for GSM is available on the private Vaginal Atrophy Facebook support group, or on the Menopause Support Network website. If you are not on any local oestrogen treatment already, you can ask your GP for some, usually Vagifem or Ovestin. Systemic HRT does not always address GSM, some women need both systemic and local oestrogen.

I experienced exactly what you describe. I had been on a continuous HRT regime and about a year ago I started getting a yellowish discharge and there was so much of it I had to wear panty liners all the time. I asked my GP and he did some swabs for infections which all came back negative but he didn’t really have any answers for me.

I have recently had to change to a sequential regime and I found that after my bleed the discharge has gone (thank god).

So I never knew what it was but it seems changing regimes has helped.
