Dear all,

I hope someone can help. I’m really struggling :(..  :'(

I’ve started a  perimenopause when I was around 38 years old. The past 7 years have been tough. For the last three years I’ve been trying to sort out my HRT and get optimised. I’m experiencing all of the perim possible symptoms. The hardest being, severe PMS,  insomnia, sore joints and anxiety. I have estrogen absorption issues and progesterone sensitivity. I am currently taking Sandrena gel twice a day.

I’ve spoken to numerous doctors. I was very desperate and so contacted a specialist again. :(
She suggested I take higher dosages of progesterone. I have taken the 400 mg cyclogest once a day. I have had an awful time with it. I have felt very anxious and very wired and wide-awake at night. Also just feeling very low and not right. My symptoms are worsening which I did not think was possible :(.

1. I’ve also got very itchy skin and very painful joints which I don’t know whether these are caused by the progesterone or low oestrogen?

2. Does anyone know any information on how % much progesterone is absorbed orally v vaginally ? I’m quite confused because the mirena seems a much lower dose than what is suggested for Utrogestan? What is a safe amount to take? 100mg seems like alot.

3. I have also read Katharina Dalton’s book, as this was recommended to me. The only thing that she doesn’t mention in there is the different types of PMS. My understanding there are different types. Here is a link https://www.avogel.co.uk/health/pms/which-pms-type-are-you/ . I feel like I have all the different types that are listed here now that I’m going through Perimenopause.

4. I recall others on this forum suggesting Studd’s work. What specifically should I be thinking about Studd’s work. I read as much as I could from his website.

5. I seem to be getting rashes before my period. Is this progesterone hypersensitivity or is this due to some sort of histamine intolerance to the oestrogen? My whole body, scalp and vagina is very itchy.

6. I also have very sore joints. I’m literally aching and finding it  hard to get up in the mornings which is quite difficult during this half term, with young kids.

7. Dr Newson suggests doing the luteal phase that you can top up your oestrogen. How much can I top up by? How do the oestrogen receptors work then, as I’ll be adjusting the amount in the month?

8. Regarding the progesterone. Should I start with a smaller amount for example 25mg, then 50 mg and then work my way up? It has felt like my body got flooded. Are there some women who can only have a minimum amount of progesterone?

Thanks so much,

Angela

Hi Angela

I'm sorry, I cavg really help - big you sound in a really bad way and I get that. It's sooo hard.

The only thing I can offer is have you ever tried dropping all estrogen supplementation?

I'm in peri and it's taken me 6 years, and private help, to realise my own estrogen is the problem and I am very imbalanced. Taking estrogen simply makes me worse.

Just a thought. Xx
