Scan to see if I'm emptying my bladder (urodynamics)??
« on: October 25, 2023, 11:14:54 PM »

I'm getting referred for a scan to see if I am emptying my bladder fully.  Has anyone had this scan done?  What does it entail?  Is it uncomfortable or does it hurt?

I'm wondering if this is what's known as urodynamics, or is this something different?

You have an ultrasound after emptying your bladder to see how much urine still remains. This is different to urodynamics where your bladder function is monitored by sensors. https://www.cuh.nhs.uk/patient-information/urodynamics-or-pressure-tests-on-the-bladder/

Yes I've had this done.

Does not hurt, just an ultrasound.  If I remember rightly you have to drink plenty of water prior to the scan, they scan your full bladder and then ask you to go to the loo.  They then scan you again to see if the bladder has completely emtied.  Mine had.

I am still struggling with slight urine leakage.  I do pelvic floor exercises daily and am currently trying Jude supplements...

Mine just seems so random, some days I can be out somewhere, need a wee and be able to hold it in.  Other days I find myself leaking when I don't even feel the need to go?!?!

Anyway, hope you get on ok.

Thanks both.

Will look at the link.

That's a bit worrying, having to drink before the scan, I can't hold it in, I've got urge incontinence,  hence the reason for being referred.  Will just have to drink a bit to get something in my bladder.

You usually have to drink 2 litres. I've had one recently but for uterus. I didn't think I'd manage it but did
