Everol Conti Patches and bleeding
« on: October 19, 2023, 09:04:46 AM »

Hello, this is my first post, and I need a bit of advice / guidance please.

I started Everol about 2 years ago, mainly to deal with the hot flashes and sleepless nights.  I was still having periods, albeit probably every three months. My GP decided that i was peri and put me on the patches.

the thing is that my periods never really stopped, and occasionally I still bleed, there have been times when I have forgotten to change the patch or even forgotten to put it on, so not always as diligent as I could have been.  I was not worried about the spotting / bleeding, as it comes with the usual period cramps and tender breasts, but after a review with my GP she told me that I should not bleed at all and has referred me for a hysteroscopy!

I suffer with PTSD and severe depression and anxiety, and this has really thrown me.  Not sure whats up nor down.

Any thoughts would be really welcome, thankyou everyone

Hi Annieireland. If you were still having periods when you started HRT then usually a sequi HRT would be prescribed which gives you a monthly bleed to keep the womb lining healthy. This does depend on age though as some doctors will prescribe conti if you are aged 53/54 even if you are still having periods.

I agree Annie and this has happened to other members on here. It's good that you are having a scan as this will check your womb lining to make sure it's not thickened too much.

You do need to ask for Evorel sequi instead and this should give you a monthly bleed. Try not to worry. You are having it checked out which is the important thing.

Hi I agree with the other ladies that you should have been given Evorel Sequi or another Sequi regime if you were still having periods x

I'd just like to offer some reassurance that plenty of women take the conti meds in peri and it isn't a risk to your lining or health as seems to be implied by some answers.
Your womb lining is protected by taking Progesterone, conti has a bit more P than sequi only the timing of when you take it is different.
Because your periods haven't stopped, there is a risk of breakthrough bleeding.
That's all the risk.
Your doctor chose the wrong HRT for you, so did mine, I started on Evorel Conti as my first HRT. Bled a lot, so eventually they switched me to sequi, but they prefer women to be on conti as then the progesterone constantly protects with no potential gaps in that protection.
It is inconvenient to have irregular periods and sequi helps regulate them, that is the reason why they invented sequi for women who aren't ready for conti yet.
You won't have done yourself any damage by taking conti instead of sequi.

PS I've been told Evorel Conti is the cheapest HRT available, so that could influence the NHS for certain!

thankyou, that has given me some reassurance, I was alarmed as you can imagine, especially when the GP said they wanted to rule out cancer.

I know myself, and unless I am reading it reallly really wrong this is breakthrough, I am bleeding at the moment, but have the usual cramps and tenderness in my breasts.

It is possible to have this after being on the conti for 2 years?

If you were peri (still having periods) when you started the conti hrt then your own cycle can tend to break through so this may be what's happening.
