Yes,definitely,if you check some threads on here, you will see that anxiety can be at its worst in the mornings,it's adrenaline, your lowering oestrogen is the culprit. I used to get terrible butterflies in my stomach, I couldn't figure it out, I wasn't nervous or anxious about anything but, later found out this was adrenaline.
Have you tried breathing exercises? Sometimes when you focus on something else, this can help x

hi jaypo, I hate the thoughts of going to bed now knowing I will wake feeling full of anxiety, it's not there when I go to bed I feel more or less normal waking up around 3 am with anxiety and trying fight it off is so exhausting it does tend to wear off later in the morning, I do all the breathing and stuff like that ,would taking estrogen prevent that do you think, I have patches but not been on them long enough to see because of side effects x

It's that waking hormone, Cortisol.  I would wake terrified anytime after 3.30 a.m. and would have to get out of bed immediately.  By evening I would be a different person: all commitments taken care of during the day ........ I had to learn not to say 'yes' to helping any1 after lunch because the anxiety would be doubled  >:( :-\

My GP gave me propranolol to ease the early morning anxiety surges.

Hi Daisie,  Ahh big hugs I suffered from this earlier in the year!!!  It is so awful - I found that propanol tablet helped calm the palpitations.  I had it on my bedside drawer ready and used to take 1 x10mg tablet at the onset.  The only thing that has helped me control the surges has been HRT so lack of Oestrogen was cause for me.   Luckily 2 months after starting the HRT the surges stopped.   Maybe book an appointment with your GP and see what they can offer you to help? xxxxxx

It certainly did help. My GP prescribed it on a continuous basis in 2001 and I stopped taking it in 2020 at the start of lock down.  Took it and never thought twice, if anxiety floors me I have an emergency tablet.

Beta blockers have definitely helped me in the past with physical symptoms of anxiety / cortisol. Unfortunately my heart rate often does not seem high enough to risk taking it when I feel physical anxiety as I worry it would then go too low. Propanalol is great though for physical symptoms. Is your beta blocker different,  maybe it is worth asking to switch? They do work quite quickly so could be good to have beside your bed.

Mine has passed for the most part but do still get it from time to time.I'm not on HRT so can't advise, sorry. The cortisol/adrenaline are definitely the culprits though. Good luck with whatever you try x
