Just to mention that for 'ladies of a certain age', there's a tendency to put everything down to the menopause, when low iron/ferritin, vitamins D, B12 and folate can all cause anxiety, amongst other things.  GP's often report blood tests are 'fine' when in fact results are far from optimal.

Good point Shorty Pants.
I assumed my fatigue and joint pain were hormonal and that hrt would ease these symptoms, as I know joint pain can be a factor in peri \meno.

Blood tests have shown it is a separate problem. So good you point out other factors may need to be considered, away from hormones sometimes, and also bloods may show within ' normal ranges'  but these may not be enough for some people. Back to the false thought that one size fits all.

Hello Penguin

I am experiencing low grade but constant anxiety at the moment so you have my sympathy.  The internal shaking feeling that I have reminds me of the sensation that I had just before I started HRT. Back then the feeling was much more intense and I learned from my trusty Meno book that it was due to low Oestrogen ( a recent blood test has confirmed that my Oestradiol is low again despite being on a medium dose HRT).

I am also on an AD but my tablets are slow release and I wonder if similar Citalopram tablets are available? It might be worth asking your GP about this if splitting your dose doesn't work as well as you would like.

Wishing you well and take care.

K.

Thanks Kathleen,  I hadn't heard of slow release tablets before, I will definitely see if that is a possibility. Is it an ssri you are on? I wonder if I could switch if they don't have citalopram in slow release. My GP is usually open to me trying things, except where it comes to lowering my utrogesran lol.

I do wonder if how I feel in the mornings is the same as you describe. It feels like my hands and chest are very very mildly trembling but when I look at my hands, they are not moving. I put it down to nerves or caffeine, I hadn't thought of hormones. I'm feeling it right now actually.

That is a good point. My iron was tested in May and was fine. I supplement B12 and D3, and thought it couldn't be a deficiency because, aside from anxiety I am otherwise full of energy. I thought with deficiencies I'd be tired or have other symptoms. Worth mentioning to GP next time I'm in though.

Who suggested that you use supplements Penguin?  B12 can interact with some medications, especially the old type of anti-depressants.  A good diet should mean that is is un-necessary to supplement.

I see a naturopath / functional medicine doctor and the recommendations were based on various tests, including genetics which show which of my pathways don't work as well as others. My vitamin D3 levels for example have never been optimal, so I supplement from September to June each year.

Definition from Google- Conventional medicine takes an anatomical-symptomatic approach, while functional medicine takes a physiologic-metabolic-biochemical-genetic systems approach.

The person I see looks at the root cause of problems rather than just dealing with symptoms.
