Reactions to norethindrone acetate
« on: October 12, 2023, 01:17:04 PM »

Hi All

I am interested to know if anyone else has had negative reactions to taking norethindrone acetate. From what I understand norethindrone acetate is a  synthetic form of the female sex hormone progesterone.
Both the HRT medications that I have been on,over the past two years, contain norethindrone acetate. The first HRT medication I tried was Elleste Duet and then I switched to Evorel Sequi patches because the Elleste was making me feel quite anxious. The negative reaction I believe I have had to the HRT is skin picking. All my life I have had a low level of skin picking but I have contained it. When I started taking the HRT the skin picking started to become out of control and the skin, especially on my arms, became really quite damaged.

I thought the over the top skin picking was anxiety due to life's ups and downs. It did not occur to me that it might be a reaction to the HRT.

However there was a period this August when I took the Evorel sequi patch that did not contain norethindrone acetate in order to have a period free holiday. I took just the Evorel sequi 50 patch for four weeks. To my amazement the skin picking went away. I had no urge to skin pick and my skin for the first time in two years started healing. It is my arms that I skin pick and they now have a lot of scars on them. I am now back on the patches which contain both hormones and one of which is the norethindrone acetate and the skin picking is happening again.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Thank you Jo

 :welcomemm:

Sorry can't help.  U could ask your pharmacist as well as reporting on the Yellow Card scheme.

Hopefully some1 will be along.  Browse round.  Make notes.
