Oh no not thrush again !!!!
« on: September 15, 2023, 06:33:49 AM »

So I went to put my estrogen in last night + think gunk so looks like my recurrent thrush has still not gone away.
I have used loads of the fluconazole tablet + a couple of pessarys but still there !!!!
Will try + see Dr today to see what they suggest, I know you can take fluconazole for longer but if it's not went away by now does that mean it's not working grrrrr, I've never had problems in the past with thrush + I've recently had blood tests so don't know why it's not going away ?

Hello Ekgirl, I  am having the same problem. Thrush isn’t going away after treating with fluconazole and canesten. Now on a three month 1 tablet a week Fluconazole tablet prescribed by the Doctor. It isn’t a nice thing to suffer. Like you don’t know why it isn’t going away. Have never really suffered with thrush before. I am very Oestrogen defficient also so this isn’t helping. Hope you get some answers today and relief comes your way very soon. I have started taking an Optibac probiotic to see if that helps, also eating live yoghurt as suggested by CLKD on this site. Take care.

So do you think the tablet a week is working ?

I have had approx 5 x 150mg fluconazole+ just finished a 7 x 50mg fluconazole plus 2 canesten pessaries + just wondered if I was getting resistant to the meds.

I have ordered probiotics at someone on heres suggestion.

Did you just go straight on the weekly dose or take anything before that?

Just a thought but are you both using estrogen cream with the reusable aplicator, if so make sure you sterilise it thoroughly after use.

Hello again, I took 2 fluconazole tablets x 2 prescriptions four tablets in total. One canesten pessary and external canesten cream. Each time swab, which was sent away to be cultured came back heavy yeast. The lady Doctor asked for the strain of yeast to be identified, but the lab never did this. I have only taken one of my 12 fluconazole tablets second one to be taken in the morning. I also was prescribed a 500mg canesten pessary again. The first canesten pessary didn’t dissolve properly due I guess to being so dry. Since using estriol internally the second pessary did dissolve. So happy about that.  Like you I am crossing everything this latest treatment works. My pain, rather like a nagging toothache in the vagina, is intermittent and I have had three relatively better days. Fingers crossed the thrush is subsiding.  I don’t itch, neither do I have the curdy discharge. Guess my pain is from the yeast infection and lack of Oestrogen. Lady doctor who did my last swab and pelvic exam said to use the estriol cream at least 4/5 times a week for a while, until I get things under control. It’s so good that we have this site and the very knowledgeable ladies to support each other. Hope you have a better day.

Using boiling water for applicator is a good idea, fungus doesn't die easily. If that doesn't help I would see your gp. I had recurrent thrush years ago and gp tested me for something that makes you more probe to it. I can't remember what it was now, it may have been diabetes. 3 x weekly oral tablets cured it for me.

***update ***
I'm just back from gp, she has taken a swab 'hopes' it will be back for Tue but she didn't give me anything. she wants to wait for results of swab to make sure if thrush + what strain as saying I have maybe built up a resistance to Fluconazole. She did say to keep using vaginal estrogen meantime.
Tue seems a long way away, I have just went + bought probiotics so will start them shortly.

Any other suggestions for the pain ? She said NOT to take anything as I was on amitriptyline but I want to give her my 'bits' + see how she copes with the pain/irritation/soreness !

Sorry you are still having a rough time. I hope you get to know the strain of your thrush. I cannot seem to find out. The doctor did ask for the strain to be identified, when it was sent to the hospital lab but they didn’t do it. I have to take another swab into the surgery at the end of this month. I have to do my swab at home this time and fill in a piece of paper to send off when taken to the surgery with name, date of birth etc. Wondering if I can put on the paper, please identify the strain. Might ask the doctor this question. May I ask what sort of pain you have? Hope you don’t mind.  Take care and hope you have a better day.

No I don't mind,
Not really itching just sore/discomfort. Feel like I need to pee quite a lot + not necessarily sore/burning when peeing but just all the time  :'(

As I said Tue seems a long way away !

I read an interesting article yesterday about thrush, I will try + copy link + paste on here.

I'm just 🙏 they can get to bottom of this 🤞

That's good it worked for you, think GP I saw was just concerned that I have had quite a lot of fluconazole but doesn't seem to be shifting it. Unfortunately waiting game till Tue  :'(
