Yeast Infection Trail
« on: September 10, 2023, 10:02:13 AM »

For those who have been on my yeast infection journey and offered advice thank you so much. The latest update from last weeks swab is the thrush hasn't cleared. Doctor has now put me on three months fluconazole treatment, one a week for three months plus one canesten pessary. The lady doctor was annoyed because she specifically asked the hospital to name the strain of yeast I had and they didn't. Anyway, fingers crossed it all works out. If not she will refer me to a GUM clinic. The ache I have from the thrush is diminishing slightly. Don't suppose it will clear completely until I get rid of thrush and I become more oestrogenised from my estriol cream. My question is will the chalky canesten pessary dissolve inside me if I am dry from the Atrophy? I see on line there is a soft gel Canesten pessary, just wondering if that would have been better for me. I have started to take one a day The Garden of Life Probiotic, early days with that. Has anyone else had success from this product or is there a better one ? Any advice is appreciated.

Why hasn't she referred U immediately and is she going to follow up her annoyance by phoning the Lab to find out the strain?  She shouldn't have put her annoyance in your direction  :-\

Is it itchy high up?  That's how I know I've got candida ..........  >:(

I do not have any advice but just wanted to say I am sorry you still have thrush. I wonder if it is possible to apply some vaginal moisturiser before inserting the pessary. Maybe that will help with the dryness.

The probiotic I take is the one Holland and Barret make. I find that I can tolerate that. I have a sensitive stomach and often struggle to tolerate medication.

Thanks for responding Floosieteacake. Applied the canesten pessary last night, not sure whether it has dissolved fully. I will have a look at the Holland and Barret make .

I find I can no longer dissolve the hard pessaries postmenopause & use the softgel capsules for that reason.

My pessary didn't dissolve due to being too dry and ended up coming out in dry chalky pieces. It says on the leaflet not to use any other products with the pessary which is why things got worse as I wasn't using estrogen for days. I used the oral ones so I could carry on with the local estrogen. I'm assuming thats the oral fluconazole you have now to take weekly.
I've read on other posts though that doctors have said to use vagifem the day after the pessary, so different advice.
I suggest you use loads of YES lubricant internally a couple of hours before inserting the pessary. YES is organic so no chemicals to react with the pessary and maybe that will be enough to dissolve it. Then use more the next morning to dissolve it all. Is the pessary one off or every week too?
The thrush caused me aching cramps but so did the fluconazole so my doctor told me to take Buscapan, it relaxes the bowel, bladder and stomach and this worked within 15 minutes of taking it.
You might feel ill after a few days if you get the Candida die off but at least you know the meds have worked.
I'm finally thrush free after 3 months of recurring bouts. I took Ibuprofen as well as this is antimicrobial and I've read helps destroy the candida cells, I just took a couple a day. Hopefully this long term treatment will help.
I'd wash underwear and towels on 60° wash too.
Not sure if you have a partner but if so maybe treatment too.

Thanks for responding and for all your information Dierdre. Will use a little yes OB to try and dissolve the pessary. I am not using Vagifem at present just estriol cream. My thrush as you probably know is an aching feeling, rather like a nagging toothache. I do take ibuprofen if the ache is too much. Just ordered some Optibacs Probiotics to see if they help. They have good reviews. Hoping this latest treatment works. So pleased you are now thrush free. Thanks again for responding.

So sorry to hear this is still ongoing.  I maybe cynical but I just don’t think one oral tablet a week is enough and I would take more.  Also agree ibuprofen in conjunction with the oral thrush tablets are said to increase effectiveness.  Need to be taken consistently for a few days.  For me the chalky pessaries did not work at all due to dryness so I would definitely try a soft pessary.   Fingers crossed you start feeling better soon.

Thanks LPD, might have to try a soft pessary. I wonder why the doctor hasn’t realised the fact the I am so dry and the chalky pessary probably won’t dissolve. Got everything crossed here. Thank you for responding.

Thanks CLKD the lady Doctor is aware of Atrophy. Saw her a week last Monday, that is when she performed my pelvic exam and she said my Atrophy had flared and how dry I was. She is actually trained in Gynaecology issues. She appears to be very knowledgeable in issues such as mine, she just needs to get me back on the right track.

Did you manage to get the pessary to dissolve? Hope you're feeling a bit better.

Think it did dissolve Dierdre, haven’t seen any chalky residue. Achy a little this am, but slept well which I am pleased about. Will get back to using estriol cream tonight as I do not have any more pessaries, just the weekly fluconazole tablet. Apparently you can ache for a couple of days after using fluconazole. Think you may have told me that. Apparently, symptoms often get worse before they get better.  Thank you for thinking about me. Just going out for a birthday coffee. Take care.
