Oestradiol levels
« on: September 02, 2023, 01:33:59 PM »

Hi all, I am 50 and I have been really struggling with anxiety and low mood since before Christmas.  I have visited my gp on lots of occasions and have gone from using evorel 25 to 50 and now on 75. Alongside this I was taking utrogestan 200 but now this  has stopped due to supply issues, so am now on provera 10mg. At one point I was also advised to try the gel, but this didn't seem to work as had terrible day and night sweats. I have been asking the gp for months to check my hormone levels as I feel so low, anxiety is crippling and cry at anything, but have been told no!!
Luckily I saw a nurse last week to discuss having the mirena coil, and asked her to do my bloods, she agreed just for oestradiol.
I called yesterday to request my blood results and the receptionist said they were satisfactory,  I asked for the reading and she said 151pmol. From other posts that I have read, this seems to be low. I would love for any feed back as I am so low and tearful and not sure what to do next. Many thanks

Yes that's low. It's normal for the nhs to prescribe based on symptoms rather than blood levels so they should prescribe a stronger patch anyway.

Hi Colette,
Sheila is right. That low reading, coupled with your symptoms, suggests low oestrogen.

Are you definitely having a mirena for the progesterone?

It’s possible you are not absorbing all the oestrogen from the patches? Any change in regime, can take a few months to settle unfortunately. Maybe try the gel, one pump at a time and see how you feel?

Other options include lenzetto spray and tablets.

Really hope you get sorted soon.
Anxiety is is the pits x

Thank you Sheila. I have a gp appointment in two weeks, hopefully we can look In to upping the oestrogen.

Hi Nas, I am having the mirena coil fitted next week. Hopefully this will suit me as I have read lots of horror stories.
I will discuss the gel with my gp and maybe explore other options, due to the absorption. Thanks for your help. X
