Watching Rick Stein on TV earlier and he calls swedes "turnips".    As do people over the Border to the North.

However: it's incorrect.  A swede and turnip are two different sorts of root crop.  There shouldn't be any confusion especially in the cooking industry .

How about “neeps” CLKD, as in…….
“Haggis, neeps and tatties - mashed turnip - yummmmmmmy…….
If I couldn’t get turnip I’d happily use swede - looks a bit different but, for me, has a similar taste so no issue for me

Oh turnips are much more bitter ........ that's really good English but it'll have to do for now 

Swede: yellow, boiled gently, mashed with lots of black pepper and butter

How do you catch a Haggis though  . They prefer boggy conditions!

Sprouts cooked correctly are great: the UK grows over 250 varieties 

Avocado don't get into this house due to the expense in growing them as well as transportation
Spuds in any form >tick<
Spouts, cabbage [raw or cooked]; swede >tick<
Can't be bothered with carrots

Celery OK occasionally
Onions - have to be careful with those 
Garlic and ginger added to most foods

Apples, pears - can't be bothered with
Plums fresh from the trees, not kept in cold storage 
Cherries in season
Bananas as often as possible
Pineapples 'on sale'

Turnip too sour for me, but yep, swede mashed with butter and black pepper.
Neeps definitely for When we lived in the Highlands. Sweeneys veggie haggis, or my homemade veggie on from Henderson's book. I feel a craving coming on...

I thought neeps were parsnips 🙈. I love haggis, tatties and neeps when in Scotland, how could I not know they weren't parsnips 🤣🤣🤣

I don't touch alcohol now for many years as it aggregates my hiatus hernia, but oh, just the whiff of cider makes me want to cry remembering the worst hangover EVER on those pesky brewed apples!!

Hahaha same with southern comfort. My stomach can still turn at the thought of some drinks.

Alcohol is best displayed in the supermarket under those lights ;-).  especially gin.
