experience in Spain:
- no age restriction I could see in leaflet
- no questions asked at all - pharmacy didn’t bat an eyelid just asked me how many boxes of 4 I needed
- SO much cheaper (as is often case with medication in Spain compared to UK) approx €12 for 4 tablets
The over 60 rule in UK…thought about this a lot when I had the heavy overgrowth and did a lot of googling …found this…
“Appropriate studies performed to date have not demonstrated geriatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of fluconazole in the elderly. However, elderly patients are more likely to have age-related kidney problems, which may require an adjustment in the dose for patients receiving fluconazole.”
I don’t class myself as “elderly” or geriatric, I think it’s ultra ultra cautious quite rubbish. I do understand they don’t want over 60s to diagnose self and to be treating right thing but a. When you have had a positive swab this doesn’t seem applicable and b. Surely this applies to every age???!
In short I could not see any red flags to taking the extra tablets (spaced out appropriately) to get rid of the thrush and tbh the way I was feeling mentally I thought it was worth it as just taking positive step made me feel better in myself.
Hope this is helpful
PS they were 150 mg tablets
