PMT during and post menopause
« on: July 04, 2023, 08:12:11 PM »

Am 59 years old  hrt and utrogestan daily .. have been for 5 years. Since March I seem to be having low moods , anxiety feeling tearful …light period like  cramps..this seems to be happening every 28/30 days.    Could I be experiencing pmt at my age.    I was put on continual hrt at 54  before I was 1 year period free.   This has been occurring since Feb/March of this year.

Hi Lilliejo. It seems strange that this has onl been happening recently when you've been on HRT for five years. How do you feel the rest of the time? I suffered from PMT all my fertile life and HRT did the same so I was used to those feelings. I am on oestrogen only now due to having had a hysterectomy and no longer have any PMT symptoms

Hi… strange isn’t t… it happens for about 5 days and then lifts until the next time which is around 28/30 days .   Totally agree bizarre as have been on hrt 5 years.    I used to have it when I was younger around my period time x

Pmt is possible at your age as some women aren't meno til their early 60s.The length of time you've been without it makes it a bit unlikely though. It isn't unusual for the ovaries to have a final fling before they die resulting in higher than normal hormones so possibly it's that. But I really don't know. Do you know what age your mother was as late menopause often has a genetic link?

It’s so weird I’m 69 and 10 years post menopausal.
Every month I still get days when I have heart flutters, an increase in hot flushes and night-sweats and can feel on edge.
Like I did when I had a period.
I always think this has got to be the last time but nope  …  next month comes and the heart flutters start and 🥵 I get multiple hot flushes.
I’ve never been on HRT but use an Oestrogen pessary for vaginal atrophy.
The rest of the time I’m pretty okay?🤷🏼‍♀️
Anyone else get this?

Its most likely that any hormonal sensations you are getting in your 60's are  not to do with "pmt" as there is no menstural cycle. That being said, after menopause the ovaries take a few years for the oestrogen produced to deceline to negligible although it is not necessarily going to be regularly cyclical - but perhaps intermittent. There are also other causes of heart flutters etc and sadly some women do experience hot flushes for many years post menopause - there was a study carried out some years ago....hopefully not sufficient to bother you unduly Bluebell. My experience is different as I am about the same age but been on HRT since age 54....

As I stated on your other thread:

Morning.  Pre-menstrual Syndrome usually happens in the 10-14 days prior to a bleed and stops immediately once the period begins.   Cyclical.

How is your HRT regime over all?  It may be that you need a hike in dose?  Browse round.  MayB put the product names into the search box: individually: will give you some threads to read.
