« on: June 21, 2023, 06:12:57 AM »

Hi - I have been on HRT a few years now and haven’t had a period for a year thereabouts but had awful pmt type symptoms and am spotting brown blood - is this anything anyone else has experienced as when I do the dreaded google it sounds worrying - or is it usual - I did miss a night of HRT when i forgot it could be that ? Also have horrendous lower back pain  Thankyou in advance Nik

Hello Nik. Missing a dose of HRT can cause bleeding. Please try not to google anything as it always points to something fatal. You did the right thing by posting on here. Hopefully things will go back to normal now you are carrying on with the regime.

Hi it’s been over a week now
And having a full
On heavy red period -
Bloated period pains nausea etc juts like a really heavy period
Back in the day -
Surely
Missing one tablet would not trigger a full
On period would it ? Not sure if it’s anything I should be concerned about

I have heard members say they have had bleeding after missing a dose of HRT. If it helps to reassure you, perhaps you could have a chat about it to your GP?

Yeh I know but in my experience  my gp’s are not fully up to speed with menopause etc so I’m guessing I would be wasting mine and their time
Will keep an eye and  hope it stops cheers anyways

Which HRT are you using? Is it conti or sequi?

Hi, just joined this site and am new to menopause, think I have started peri.
Have had extremely long period and just wanted to ask if anyone else had same symptoms during peri?
Thanks x

Hello and welcome to the forum. Yes, erratic periods are a common symptom in peri. :)

Hi
I would ring your GP and ask for an ultrasound scan, as any bleeding after 6 months, needs to be ivestigated.

If you were one year plus, without a period, then a conti regime Is recommended and if you are peri ( still having periods, then a sequi regime should be followed).

Best of luck 🤞

Hi Nik,
If you were taking continuous progesterone or progestogen for any length of time, more than a few weeks and then missed a day, that would potentially be enough to bring on a period. It would in me.

This is what happens when the GP would offer you progesterone to delay your period, hrt is at a lower dose that the one designed to override a young endocrine system, but many women react quickly to small changes, so the dose is already something very individual.

Whenever I've had a long delay to my period, including over 12 months delay a couple of years back, the next one is heavy and often lasts longer too.

I think that is unexplained bleeding after 6 months needs investigation, but missing a full day of HRT would seem to explain it.

I agree if something seems not right to you, then ask for a scan.

I'm booked for a scan this August for unexplained bleeding from last year (when I was 52), although my periods have been so regular recently, it's more about an unexplained absense of periods from a couple of years ago when they first stopped. Top suspect is covid.

Well I would still ring the GP and request a scan, just to be on the safe side. You have been on HRT for a number of years and haven’t had a period in a year, so on a conti regime.

It’s unlikely to be anything sinister, but you can never assume anything.

I think you should ask for a scan too. Although missing a day might explain it it doesn't definitely do so. I would still put it in thr 'unexplained' category. And if your lining was thin there shouldn't be very much blood.

Agee with Sheila. This is unexplained bleeding. Missing a dose of HRT, doesn’t necessarily fully explain the cause I’m afraid.
