Progesterone sensitivity and Provera
« on: June 20, 2023, 06:32:18 AM »

Hi
Just wondering if anyone has had experience of Provera used as an alternative to Utrogestan?
I’m peri, on 50 evorel patch and my GP has changed my prescription from Utro to Provera as I was getting horrifically low mood and suicidal ideation on utro.  This is now my second month of provera, 10mg for 12 days. I stopped taking them 16 days ago and still no bleed. I’ve had significant period pain, flat mood and oh man such SORE boobs for about 3 weeks. It’s like living with constant period symptoms, long after stopping taking the damn thing.
I’m changing to utro vaginally for this month’s progesterone delight.
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this with Provera? I can’t find any info about it as HRT, it seems to be all about fertility treatment.
Just hope that I can tolerate utro vaginally 🤞

Hello and welcome to the forum. I have not used provera but if you put provera in the search bar you can have a read through the threads about it. Hopefully somebody who uses it will post soon. :)

Morning.  I wouldn't mess around with progesterone  :-\.  Many find it difficult during that part of an HRT regime.  R U taking pain relief?

Browse round.  Make notes.

Thank you for replying  :) I have ended up paying for private consultation as my area doesn’t have NHS menopause specialist. Their advice was to do pessary Utrogestan. I’m just worried (and in pain) that I haven’t had a bleed and wondered if this was a common thing! I’m due to start utro end of this week and a little concerned 😟

Which part of you is in pain? Do you know what vaginal atrophy is? I just thought I would mention it as many GPs do not know what it is. It is when lack of oestrogen can cause dryness, pain UTI type feeling in the vagina and vulva. This needs treating with localised oestrogen such as Vagifem or Ovestin.

I have abdominal pain/period cramps and very sore boobs. Like really really sore! This has been going on throughout the Provera stage and since I stopped taking it..so for over 3 weeks. (I’m on sequential Provera as I’m peri.) It feels like my period is about to start and it just doesn’t!!! So over it. Everything I’ve read on here is women saying that provera makes them bleed too much (which is equally awful). It’s so confusing that the same drugs have different impacts on different women…I don’t like not being in control and I’m out of my depth of knowledge here ;D

It is frustrating. It will be individual for everybody. I have seen some members on here who use Provera and find they can tolerate it and others who cut it in half and can tolerate it that way.

I can relate to the symptoms you have as I had them too when I first tried HRT. It took my body a long time to get used to it. Did you start on Evorel 50 because that may be too much too soon. Evorel 25 is the lowest dose and perhaps you would find that a bit easier for your body to adjust to.

Sooo frustrating for so many women :(
No, I’ve been on HRT for a year, started at 25 evorel. Issues with utrogestan throughout. Worse worse worse in conti patches!!! Hopefully vaginal utro will work 🤞🤞 Hopefully I’ll have a bleed before I have to start taking it 🤞🤞

It is a good idea to try it vaginally. I hope it works out better for you. :)
