Lutigest Anyone?
« on: June 18, 2023, 03:43:33 PM »

Hello ladies.

As some of you may know I am having a hard time with low mood and anxiety but I am doing my best to carry on!

I finally managed to get a copy of the letter written by the Consultant I saw in April. He thinks my Oestrogen is fine, has suggested CBT for my mood problems and also thinks I should now use Lutigest 100mg progesterone pessaries every night instead of Cyclogest 100 mg on alternate nights. He has recommended this to make sure that my womb lining is sufficiently protected.

Since my appointment I haven't been able to  use the Cyclogest every night as I don't have enough pessaries and I can't  get any more until next month ( they were prescribed by Newson Health). I now wonder if I can have Lutigest prescribed by my GP?

I am going to try and speak to my GP next week but I wondered if anyone here has used Lutigest?

I am a bit concerned that using these every night will cause my mood to dip even further ( as if that's possible), but on the other hand they may have a calming effect and certainly I haven't had much luck with varying Oestrogen amounts so perhaps more prog is the answer?

I am clutching at straws here ladies but I need to keep trying everything I can as life at the moment is a bit pants.

I would appreciate any comments as always and I wish you all well.

Hi Kathleen

I tried it. I took it for just 7 days because of my hair extreme progesterone intolerance. It made me feel grotty but did not give me mood swings. I paid privately for it, from memory it was £30/40’sh for the prescription. I’ve got some left if you want to try it x

Hello Perinowpost.

Thank you for your comments.

I am sorry that Lutigest didn't help you. I assume that you have now found a suitable progesterone.  Thank you for the offer by the way but I expect that my GP will prescribe the pessaries to me.

I did a bit of a search and Lutigest has been mentioned before on the forum but only a few times I think.

It is an NHS consultant who wants me to try Lutigest whereas Cyclogest has been prescribed to me by Newson Health so I pay for that.

Hi Kathleen

No I never found a prog that I could tolerate.

Hope Lutigest works for you though. Do let us know if you try it x

Hi Kathleen,

From what I can gather Lutigest and Cyclogest are the same Prog except Cyclogest can be taken vaginally or rectally whereas Lutigest is vaginally only.
I’m on Cyclogest 200mg rectally on alternate nights giving me the 100mg on a daily basis.
It’s the only Prog I can tolerate and I certainly haven’t had any issues with low mood, only a bit of constipation which is ok.
My gp prescribes Cyclogest on nhs but only with letter from private meno consultant on a 3 monthly basis.
You could ask gp if they’re happy with a copy of the letter you have from April? X

Hi Evie606

Im so sorry to jump in, however ive just gone from utrogestan 100mg to cyclogest as i cannot tolerate utrogestan.

im starting off slow on cyclogest and think im using about 75mg at the minute.

can i ask how are you finding the cyclogest?  and is the dosage the same equivalent as for utrogestan?

im taking it slow but i dont want my estrogen/prigesterone ratio to be out.

Thanks so much xxx

Hi Discogirl,

I’ve been on Cyclogest for months and it suits me fine, Utro made me feel like I was losing my mind.
The dose is the same, 100mg of Utro is the same as 100mg of Cyclogest. I don’t think you can get Cyclogest in less than 200mg pessaries though which is why I only take it every second night.
Hope it works for you! X

Hi Evie606

Thanks for replying.

I could be wrong but I think cyclogest is used off licence for hrt,  its used in fertility treatment i believe so maybe thats why the lowest dose is 200.

thanks again

take care xx
