Up and down emotional
« on: May 08, 2023, 11:23:47 AM »

Hello to you all. My last period was Feb 2022 so I am post menopausal.  When I was having periods I used to get, like nearly all of us, emotional and dark, sad for no reason - crying, fed up and low mood. I had thought perhaps now that periods and hormones have changed the emotional ups and downs would also fade? This past few days I've been very low, teary, feeling bleak and sad for no reason. Does the hormonal rollercoaster continue?  I have if course felt down in the dumps over the past year but this feels like it did in my darkest days. I suppose I'm asking if hormones still play a part in low mood or is this me perhaps going down the hole of.low.mood, depression that I have had in the past?

I am sorry to hear of how low you are feeling. Hormones can still effect mood in post meno unfortunately. Are you taking HRT because it is possible to give it a tweak.

Hello and thank you.  No, I'm not on HRT. I've not been to the doctor at all about menopause or anything else. So far, I've not had any flushes but my hair is suffering including eyebrows and hairline. I can't shift any weight despite exercise and not eating. I take some meds for thyroid, high BP and propranolol.  Would the docs put me on HRT if I didn't have the "usual" symptoms?.

Not all women experience hot flushes. Some women take HRT for bone protection or aches and pains.  :)

Hi Evies,

I Take hrt and thyroxine. Lost almost all my eyebrows... Worth getting your thyroid levels 're checked as I had to increase my tyroxine recently. As you know the symptoms you have can be interactive thyroid, or indeed meno.

I am still peri, and don't really have many not flushes, mostly night sweats ( and a host of other things I won't go into!)

Maybe take a look at some of the threads on here about symptoms and experiences on hrt. Not everyone on this forum is on hrt, some use other trusted methods to support mind and body.

But I would make sure your thyroid is checked in a regular basis.
