HRT - not working
« on: May 02, 2023, 02:33:06 PM »

Hi
I started HRT, the oestrogen gel and progesterone tablet, about 2 months ago. I have had to stop because the side effects were horrendous and i felt much worse. Previously i had tried other HRT methods such as the patches and pills, the same thing happened my body couldn't hack it. It really makes me feel so so tired, spaced out and rough that i give up. It really doesn't agree with my body.
I am not sure what else i can do or try? I am going to ask my GP to send me to a specialist, I think there is one on the NHS.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I really tried with HRT but it got to a point where I just felt so ill and out of it, the symptoms of menopause were more favourable. For some reason, i just have a really bad reaction to HRT.
I am 52 and I have not had a period for about 2 years.
Thanks

HI!  why did U think that you require replacement therapy?  MayB keeping a mood/food/symptom diary would be useful.

Getting onto a dedicated menopause clinic waiting list would be a good idea, both private and NHS.  If when the appt arrives you can cancel if you don't require it.

Hiya Josie,

I have been on hrt since last September, patches and utrogestan to start, then as I  really couldn't tolerate the oral utrogestan, I had the mirena coil fitted to the progesterone part. Am 56 and still peri.
From my own experience, I definitely felt a lot worse when I began hrt, it was so hard to persevere, but I knew my symptoms were so bad I struggled to continue. I felt I had no choice. It did take about three months to settle down. Since then I have had increase my dose of estradot patches, and have had many ups and downs.
Am hoping finally I am heading to the correct dose for my symptoms.

The hardest part can be   persevering when you feel worse. But as you can see in different sections of this forum , many women go through peri and meno without being on hrt. Maybe take a look at their advice and experiences to see if something other than hrt may be better for your symptoms?

It is worth discussing with your g.p for their advice. I wish you well
