High blood pressure caused by HRT anyone?
« on: April 25, 2023, 12:09:55 PM »

So I've been sticking with Evorel Conte trying to ride the waves of symptoms I seem to have been getting. Today I had a routine eye check and the optician told me she was writing to my GP as I'd had a minor bleed deep in the eye - nothing to overly worry about, but would need to be checked for diabetes or other issue. She mentioned blood pressure so I stopped off at the GP and measured myself twice using their cuff as I don't have one. Long story short, I have very high blood pressure (was normal before starting HRT) so I've been given a sheet to fill in for a week checking my BP at home twice per day. Is this likely to settle down do you think or is this really nature's way of telling me HRT just really doesn't suit me? Its been a bit of a struggle and, although I'm sleeping better and the hot flushes are greatly reduced, I have had some side effects and now today this high BP thing and some bright red spotting and period type cramps too. Lol. Who would want to be a woman?

Hi EllieJ

I was prescribed Everol Conti patches in August 2018. I didn't feel well fairly soon after starting using them, within a few days I felt quite ill and something made me take my blood pressure (which at that time had always been ok). I was horrified to see it was 202/115!! I called the surgery straight away and they said to take the patch off. I think I recorded it for a week after that (I can't remember) but it did go back to normal. I am afraid for me it was at that stage that I decided I'd never try HRT again.
Obviously we're all different but this was my experience.
Exactly - who would want to be a woman  ;)

Hello ladies.

Back in the day the GP regularly checked your blood pressure if you were taking the contraceptive pill. Do they still do that I wonder?  A friend of mine was unable to take the pill because it raised her blood pressure and she was told that this was a side effect for some women.

I wonder if this also applies to HRT? In all the years I have been experimenting with pills, patches and gel I have never been asked about my BP or had it taken at the surgery.

Hopefully other ladies will be along with some advice but I understand that HRT is still allowed if blood pressure is controlled by medication.

Take care ladies.

Hi.  My BP went up with menopause, prior to HRT. It came down once I started HRT.  My meno specialist said the utrogestan can have lowering effects for some people.  So maybe it all depends on the type of HRT.  Also since menopause I have developed raging White Coat Syndrome.  Whenever any doctor takes my BP it goes sky high.  When I do it at home it's perfect.  The doctors tell me to do my own now :-).
