56.... And only stopped periods when I had mirena coil fitted in October. Judging by my hormones fluctuating each month I should still be getting natural periods.

Two months off of my 52nd birthday. I did go 8 months between periods towards the end, can't exactly remember when though!
Gosh didn't realise I am now 7 years post meno.

Thanks ladies. I just turned 52 a couple weeks ago and have a period now after not having one since end of May last year. Have my dr appt tomorrow but just wanted to check. Bc it feels like a regular period, cramping, heavy flow first two days, now tapering off at day 5.

I told this to my “friend” and she said - it might be cancer so of course you think the worst. I guess in my mind I thought menopause was a bit more black and white. Duh?

It's The Change - does what it says on the tin  ::).  Your friend gets her info from where exactly?  MayB take a list of concerns with you to the appt.?

My friend has her “doctorate” from Gucci so I take her medical advice only in regards to what I should wear to an appointment.

But of course anyone throws the c word around we focus on that only. As you have wisely said in other posts I’ve seen

Even if we are diagnosed with the Big C., there is treatment .......... we don't hear about survivors though.

If it feels like a period why suspect cancer? That usually sneaks up on you without pmt etc. Latest period aged 62, don't know if it's the last. On hrt so perhaps there wouldn't have been enough build up for a bleed without it but definitely my own cycle doing 'something', all the usual signs of a period including wrong timing for hrt induced one.

Wow Shelly 62? That’s amazing (although I’m sure it’s frustrating too) have they been monthly?  I would be fine for this to be my last hurrah so to speak (period not breath 😉).

I know I shouldn’t go right to cancer and actually it never entered my mind!  Until it was offered up as a “possibility”.

I’m not overly concerned. As always I will do everything I have to to be here for my son. I’ve all he has. But as ckld said- most things are treatable regardless.

Also not sure this makes any difference but I had to have my fallopian tubes removed after I gave birth to my son. He was born c section due to pre eclampsia.

I had asked my dr at the time why the removal and not a ligation and she had said one was damaged during surgery.

Please note that in discussion of last natural period, this is the last period when NOT on HRT (or on progesterone forms of contraception). Once you are on HRT, you can never be certain whether any bleeding is due to the hormones or a very late menopause. Any bleeding on HRT is not termed a natural period, even if ovulation might have occurred. Depending when you start peri-menopause, the later in your 50's you get, then it becomes increasingly unlikely to be a natural period - but of course still possible ( if bleeding on HRT) which is why it is always important to get it investigated.

At 52 I wouldn't be worrying at all. However as you are close to the 12 month mark and the bleeding is worrying, even if it feels like a period - you can always mention it to the doctor and be referred for a scan etc for peace of mind?

I had my last natural period at 53 just before age 54, but I started HRT then so from that point on I have no idea when my periods would have stopped.

Hi Hurdity :)

What would you make of me, (I know you're not a Dr, but in your opinion) ?

Whilst on  sequential HRT I have always had my own periods as well as withdrawal bleeds. I was never able to tie them in together.

Pretty regular and for the normal length of a period, with all the PMT symptoms beforehand.

I've been on continuous HRT since January and am still experiencing the same pattern of bleeding. No change.  Predictable (withing a few days) and for the same length of a normal period, with all the PMT symptoms beforehand.

I can understand whilst on sequential due to ups and downs of hormones added, but whilst on continuous there is a steady stream daily of hormones added?

During a recent scan the sonographer told me I still had the womb of a menstruating woman.

My consultant seemed not keen to say they were still  my own periods but didn't say they weren't either. He told me I was peri-menopausal, like it would come as news to me.

Thanks for any insight Hurdity!  :thankyou:
