Help………womb lining of 8mm!
« on: April 15, 2023, 05:55:58 PM »

I’ve been on HRT for 26years due to an early menopause.  In July 2020 I started on utrogestan 100 continuously, along with oestrogel………for the first couple of months I had slight spotting but all was fine up until three weeks ago when I had a slight period.  Fast forward three weeks and I’ve just had a transvaginal scan……
.to be told I have a large fibroid and my womb lining is 8mm.   I’ve also been told I need a hysteroscopy………
I’m terrified.  Any advice please?

Hi I had the same thing happen to me.  Bleeding resulted in a trip to the hospital on a two week referral. My lining was 11mm and a polyp was found. So a hysteroscopy was planned under general anaesthetic the following week. All went fine….polyp was removed and biopsy was clear. I’ve no idea if my lining is less now. Consultant at hospital was only bothered about the biopsy and I was discharged . My GP didn’t know what to do. That was 16 months ago.

So I would say …. don’t worry about it. xx

There are lots of articles and reports at the moment about unnecessary hysteroscopies for women on hrt.

Thank you Jan1234 for replying.  What did they do to reduce your lining, if you don’t mind me asking?

That’s the point……… I’ve always been on sequi so had regular bleeds; the gynae suggested I go on continuous as it was better at keeping the lining low.  She also recommended to my gp that I had a scan before embarking on new regime.  It didn’t happen.   Hence I don’t know if the thickening is due to taking continuous utrogestan, or it would have happened regardless.

I’m getting so confused with it all.

Sounds similar to my experiences. Usual womb lining is 5mm, which triggers investigations when I have ultrasounds.  Bleeding on HRT. Got my next review tomorrow and cervical screening on Weds. if needed, will have further investigations. Have been through all this before when on HRT. It seems to cause bleeds. If there’s nothing untoward comes up, I’m planning on a Sequi type of schedule. Always suited me before, and at least I’ll know when to expect a bleed.

I'm only two years post menopause, so it might not be relevant, but HRT causes bleeding for me.

My periods stopped in March 2021, in April 2022 I got HRT (Evorel Conti) and from May 2022 I've had periods again.
So after a year of monthly periods they took me off the post menopause meds (tibolone) and now I'm on Evorel50 + provera on sequi.

There are plans to bring me in for a scan sometime this year, it's probably going to be transvaginal but could be maternity ultrasound, wherever the waiting list takes me, lol.

The scan will check for anything bad, I've always had thicker than usual womb lining 6mm was measured one week after a heavy period, so by three weeks the doctor thought 18mm as an estimate. Never had fibroids, polps or other lumpiness, but my sister has had fibroids for decades, they aren't seen as a problem for her and everyone is very relaxed about my periods restarting after a 14 month holiday. I told my GP many times before speaking to the menopause nurse, the latter was very helpful, my GP was not bothered a jot.

Perhaps after having had early menopause you're forgetting how normal it is for us to bleed?

I think that when this is all sorted I’ll be going back to sequi………… never had any problems in the 26 years I’ve been on HRT.
