Any opinions ?? Lining of womb
« on: April 11, 2023, 03:27:33 PM »

Hi … would love some opinions on my situation . Im 58 years old and
Have  been on hrt for a long time but last year was bleeding heavy from may until march this year . Doctor referred me for scan in oct  and i have only just seen a consultant as the lining of my womb was 8mm . Consultant wants  me to have an “ urgent “  hysteroscopy. The thing is , i stopped my hrt at the start  of  march and the bleeding stopped . Surely the lining of the womb would be thinning now since my scan in oct . The hysteroscopy doesnt look like its going to be anytime soon . Been told it could be another six weeks if not more !  Shall i request another ultrasound scan to see what the lining is doing now or just have the hysteroscopy anyway .  Would love some advice as really dont know what to do .  Thanks ladies .

Yes you can request another scan in few months time. If your lining is reducing, then you can discuss with GP

Thank you … Ellie O .
Was even thinking of going private to have another scan , but you think I'm entitled to ask for another ? I mean it was last oct and ive had to wait til now to see a consultant . Dont fancy a hysteroscopy.. and god knows when that will be !  X

Hi Rosie. Definitely have private scan if GP won’t offer. It’s much better than hysterescopy. I never had it but I think it’s horrible!

Have you continued with the progesterone? Just a thought but it might help reducing it further (assuming you're on a separate one).

Hi Sheila99 …. To be honest no i haven't . They have offered me a coil when  i eventually have hysteroscopy but  i have said no unless the biopsy comes back problematic .
No , i just came off the gel and provera at the same time and the bleeding stopped within a week .
Thanks for the idea . X

Hello ladies.

I think that if a scan shows a thin lining and no other problems are revealed you won't be referred for a hysteroscopy.

This time last year I was investigated for bleeding at my local hospital. I had a scan which showed a thin lining and the doctor had a good look around with a speculum and all was okay. It was concluded that I didn't need a hysteroscopy but I was advised to reduce my Oestrogen gel which I did.

Fast forward to this week and I met the NHS Consultant who noted from my records that all was good last year plus I am now  using less oestrogen and I haven't had any bleeding. All of which means that no further action is needed.

I hope this helps you in some way.

Wishing you well and take care.

Hi Kathleen

Please could I ask you how much oestrogen you were using before and how much you went down to?

The reason is, I have had a scan because I told Gp I was still having regular periods at age 59 and they were getting heavier, she didn't believe me basically , anyway I have a thin lining and my womb is still that of a menstruating woman. I have to have a follow up with gynae and I'm afraid they'll tell me to cut down on my oestrogel and want to be prepared.  I've begun continuous utorogestan and am hoping that will slow the flow over a period of months.

Thank you in advance  :thankyou:

Thanks for replies ladies …
Bt the way ,I was  asked why i was on hrt by the consultant who then proceeded to mention breast cancer and heart problems !!!  Seemed really anti hrt . Ive only come off it to see what would happen with the bleeding . Like i said, the bleeding has stopped but where does that leave a woman who wants to stay on hrt . Minefield !!

Oh RosieRoo!
The last thing we need is consultants like that! :(

HRT is good for you. Studies have shown it gives some protection against heart disease, brittle bones, even dementia has been mentioned.
i know I will be saying as much to the consultant tomorrow if he comes out with anything like that!  >:(  Apart from anything else HRT keeps me (reasonably!) sane!  Plus, it is our choice as women to take it if we wish!

I agree though, minefield!

Good luck! xx

Hello ladies.

Clovie -

When the bleeding first appeared about two years ago I was using three 1mg sachets of Sandrena gel ( ie 300 mcg) and one 100mcg capsule of Utrogestan vaginally on alternate nights. This regime was prescribed to me by Newson Health and a recent blood test had shown that my Oestradiol was at 600. This was quite a lot of Oestrogen to progesterone and  I had been experiencing increasingly painful breasts. I felt that the progesterone wasn't sufficient and when I accidentally missed a dose of Utrogestan the bleeding began, was fairly heavy and went on for some time.

Since then I have been slowly reducing the gel and I am now using half of a 1mg sachet (ie 50 mcg ) and a 100mcg pessary for the progesterone. I don't have any problems with bleeding or spotting and my breasts are back to normal.

All bleeding stopped when I started to reduce the gel and my investigation a year ago confirmed that it was caused by the HRT I was using. Perhaps the Oestrogel was too high but also the very low amount of prog was insufficient to protect my womb.

I hope this helps you in some way. I agree that we need to be informed before we see the medics. I am sorry that I can't remember exactly how much gel I was using when the bleeding stopped but it was likely two and a half or two sachets.

Wishing you well and take care.

Hi Kathleen! Thank you for replying! :) Thankyou for taking the time!

This info is useful, thank you. I don't use patches- I use gel but still useful!
Can I ask you, are you post menopausal?

Best wishes to you xx  :thankyou:

Hi Rosie Roo

I started a new thread about my experience with consultant today.
Seems they want to dig and dig and dig until they find SOMEthing wrong!  :(

I know, I do realise they have to cover all scenarios to cover themselves, but it makes me so UBER anxious, why can't they just accept I MIGHT still be having periods?
Just because I am 59.
I'm not 79!!!

My scan showed thin lining and no abnormalities and the womb of a woman still menstruating - yet the consultant today was talking about taking me off HRT soon :(

Hi Kathleen

How did you feel coming down from such a high dose, and how do you feel now? I am on a super high dose too. Does the lower dose keep a your symptoms at bay?

Thanks
