Progesterone vaginally any improvement noticed.
« on: April 06, 2023, 10:29:34 AM »

Hello

I’ve been advised to try Progesterone vaginally as I couldn’t get on with it orally.

Did anyone see an improvement from doing it this way?

I stopped HRT back in January as I felt absolutely dreadful on it, one of the issues was the progesterone, dreaded taking it.

I want to try again with a smaller dosage of oestrogen and try progesterone vaginally.

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Hi there

I’m also interested in any responses on this.

I’ve been taking Utrogestan orally for a year now continuous and wondering if it is contributing to my depression getting worse or not easing off. Was thinking of trying it vaginally instead.

I definately felt a positive difference using progesterone vaginally. I would say my big advice would be to also use ovestin cream/ other topical estrogen to support the region while using progesterone this way, I wish I had known this x

My reply has disappeared  >:(. Taking it vaginally should resolve any digestive issues such as heartburn or bloating but it's far less likely to sort out emotional ones. It might be worth trying a different type of progestin.

Hello Peanut,

I had a breakthrough bleeding issue and have been prescribed 200 continuous Utrogestan with Estradot 50. I have been taking it for month and felt tired, sluggish and down. I also suffer from indigestion, bloating etc. Last couple of days, on the top of this, I was having a headache and pressure in my head. I had enough and although my GP has not recommended it, I took last night 100 vaginally. I do feel better today, my headache stopped although this might be unrelated.
I know it's very early to comment but I hope that this will work as dr Newson and some others say that vaginally half a dose is needed so 100 should be enough. I just hope that it's well absorbed this way, there is some leakage obviously in the morning...

The manufacturer (and I think the BMS?) thinks the dose should be the same however you take it. Not sure how much research Newson has done particularly at high doses of oestrogen (and presumably it's the nhs not her that sees the results when it's gone wrong).

I agree Sheila, BMS recommended the same dose. My gynecologist recommended 200 for a month and possibly continuously to keep the lining thin. I have taken it for a month and spotting stopped quite quickly, so I am hoping that 100 will be enough, I am on 50 patch. I think that spotting started because I had to change from Estradot to other patch for a while due to shortage...

Hi

My menopause clinic told me to only take one (100g) this was Newson health.

This is concerning me.

I am sure you will be fine if you take the same dose vaginally.  :)

Just an update, after second night that I have taken Utrogestan vaginally I feel quite unwell. Already yesterday I started feeling as if I'm going to get a period and now I'm feeling the same but also tearful and generally very tired. I don't understand what's going on...

I tried using it this way and it caused a bleed so maybe you are having the same reaction. I was under the impression that taking utragestron vaginally should be done on alternative nights as the dosage is less this way.
