Tibolone at age of 57
« on: April 05, 2023, 08:39:29 PM »

Hello, I am Post Menopausal with chronic illnesses. I had been on Tibolone 2.5mg for 4 years then slowly reducing it to every other day then taken off due to my age (57) I stopped about 5 months ago and the sweats, IBS, low libido, joint pain, low mood, bloating have all returned.
Because I have other chronic illnesses I have wondered for a while if these symptoms were part of my illnesses but after mulling it over I think I'm missing HRT of some sort.
I have an appointment with my GP next week (waited 7 weeks for this appointment)
I also have a prolapse of my womb which I'm going to talk through with my GP as I think it is worse since stopping Tibolone.
At my age can I request HRT, bloods? Etc

Thank you for any advice. X

Hello Renee and a warm welcome to the forum. You can request HRT and HRT can be taken for life. Many members of the forum have started HRT when post meno. The symptoms you describe are all common meno symptoms so I can understand why you made the connection between hormones and the symptoms. You can ask for hormonal blood tests too.

I am sure some knowledgeable members will reply to your thread soon. :)

Thank you. I think I have posted twice in error.

I was told that I shouldn't be on HRT after the age of 55. The GP I saw brought it up when I was at an appointment for something else and she decided it was time for me to come off.

I have read I can be on HRT at my age and wondered if it's a different combination I need?

It's all so confusing isn't it? X

And I thought I'd replied but it's disappeared! Your gp is wrong. There used to be an age limit of 60 but now there isn't one. Tell her to look at the NICE guidelines if she disagrees. I didn't start it til 57 though I was still peri. Transdermal is considered safer than oral.

No, tibolone is oral only but there are many other hrt options. Have a look at the Treatments tab above for options.
