41 years old menopausal
« on: March 28, 2023, 01:56:42 PM »

Hello ladies i was diagnosed with early menopause at 39, i never really had sweats, mood swings etc only periods just stopped completely and that’s it. But this year i started Vagifem pessaries to treat vaginal dryness. But still having like they say silent UTI with no symptoms only white and red cells in my urine when it tested. My main concern so far is vaginal dryness and silent UTI which are draining my body. Would like to hear any suggestions or even some reassurance. TIA

Hello and welcome to the forum. Vaginal atrophy is a horrid condition but do not worry as there are lots of useful threads on here. Are you using the pessaries daily? The GP will suggest to use it daily for two weeks and then drop to twice a week but this is not enough for many of us and using it daily will help much more.

Have you ever tried any vaginal moisturiser? Yes and Sylk are both nice and gentle ones. You may also like to try seabuckthorn capsules which are taken orally. I buy mine from Holland and Barrat and I have noticed they really do help with vaginal dryness.

Something I have found helpful is to switch from baths to showers and only to wash with emollient. I apply it before the shower, wash it off in the shower and then reapply some to act as a barrier.

Vaginal atrophy mimics UTI's but once this is under control these horrid symptoms will improve for you.

I would use vagifem daily until the symptoms improve. Twice a week is often not enough.

It is horrible and I totally understand why you feel fed up.

Those 'shows' in the urine sample is within normal limits for many.  The only way to find out if there is an infection is for a fresh urine sample to be sent to a Lab for testing.  ABs should not be prescribed without a positive growth.

Use the VA every night for at least 3 weeks.  When I get the need2P feelings I swallow 2 Nurofen 3 times a day to ease symptoms.

How old are you now? It's recommended that you take hrt at least until average menopause age to protect your heart and bones.

I would strongly recommend you ask for transdermal hrt (patch gel or spray) as the risks are minimal and less than if you drink, smoke or are overweight. A lot of the scare stories are based on the old type made from horse urine. Osteoporosis isn't much fun either  :(.

Hi. I agree that at your age HRT is something you should try. You are merely replacing something that should have naturally been yours up to the age of around 50/51 so these years don't really count if you are thinking about risks. It will protect your heart and bones.

Have you been offered a cystoscopy just to check out your bladder? I've had a few of those over the years just to make sure that there's no other reason for the silent UTIs
