Symptoms on patch increase
« on: March 16, 2023, 02:52:03 PM »

Hi
Am hoping for some advice regarding increasing hrt patch.
I started hrt in October on estradot 50 and oral utrogestan.  I am peri, and my worse symptoms have always been mood swings, anger, sore boobs and anxiety. There are others but these are the worse. For several weeks I felt ten times worse. I switched to mirena coil, and after 3 months of constant bleeds and spotting I began to feel so much better.
Last few weeks.my moods have got worse, energy levels crashes and back to feeling teary. I decided to increase to estradot 75, but snipped a tiny bit off to increase slowly. I now feel jittery, heavy limbed, hardly any energy and a fuzzy head and tingling in hands and legs... That's a new one for me.. I seem to remember feeling much  like this on first starting hrt.

I have underactive thyroid, but am ok levels on 125 levothyroxine.

Incidentally,even before I increased,I  began to bleed\spotting again after 3 months clear.

I admit I am under a massive amount of stress right now.

So, do I continue on 62-75 patch and hope improve like last time? Or am I on too high or too low a dose?

Am losing the plot. After 3 years of hormonal chaos, I had about 2 months early this year of feeling ok again and now am hitting the crash again.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi Sarah,
So sorry to hear things are proving tough for you right now.

Maybe revert back to the 50 patch for now and keep a note of your key symptoms? Meanwhile you do could get a blood test done, to check
absorption?

In theory, if you are still symptomatic, you should try and increase the oestrogen dose. Sounds like you are sensitive to hormone changes, so any increase or decrease would affect your body.

It’s a total minefield, trying to get the dose right.

Sending huge hugs xxx
Things will get better xxxxx

Thanks Nas,

It's so hard isn't it when after a hard slog,  things even out and then wham you're back facing the worsening symptoms again.
As you say I am symptomatic to seemingly need an increase seeing as the old rubbishy  symptom stuff is back. With a vengeance. >:(

I think maybe if I  can hack it,  I am going to try to persevere on the slightly higher dose. I mean I felt seriously bad  before starting hrt, even worse after I started but then I, or my own cycle or my own hormones mixed with the hrt  seemed to even out... Am hoping that possibly  again just take some time for all those parts to become compatible. Maybe??

Minefield indeed. I mean all we ask for is a bit of constant stability, but am wondering if I should alter my mind set to try to accept that it will always be tweaking things up and down on thanks rollercoaster. Just some days.....

Thanks for the hugs and yes, you're right. We've been down but it WILL get better.

Hugs back to you xx

Remember the D ream song Things can only get better
( 1993) Sarah?

That’s for us! I think maybe only a few women are settled on a steady dose of hrt. For the rest of us, it’s a blooming rollercoaster.

Hang on in there!! Xxxx

Hah! Going back a few years there Nas! That's us showing our age then ;D

My little song to help in the same way is George Harrison's Here Comes The Sun.

Or Oscar Wilde with his (paraphrasing here) We  Are All Of Us Lying  In The Gutter... But some Of Us Are Looking At The Stars.

But now I think we have jumped into a separate thread. Haha.

Thanks for that. Maybe we should get T-Shirts printed.

But yeah, thinking clearly I am going to carry on the higher dose for a while yet and hope it all settles a bit, and my mind accepts what you say, we carry on with the rollercoaster ride of peri\meno

Thanks for the advice and support. Now I can't get D ream tune out of my head.....

Big hugs

Ha ha Sarah… it certainly is a rollercoaster! Don’t worry, I will join you for the ride 😀

Stick with the increase in dose then and see how you feel. Eventually things have to stabilise surely?

I’m kind of in the gutter, not quite looking at the stars yet! 😊

Good to ride out this madness with you Nas,
Need to laugh through this sometimes.

Am going to do a daily diary of my ups and downs too, see if a pattern emerges over the weeks.

Still singing D Ream. But as for stars, if anyone comes up with SClub7(?) Reach For The Stars I will not be held responsible for my actions. ;D

Here goes for a more positive day. We can do this,  we aren't  on our own. Am up for it

Hugs always xx
