Burning big toe
« on: February 21, 2023, 12:18:34 PM »

For months now I've been disturbed during the night with my right big toe burning like a red hot needle is stabbing into the soft underside pad. It started occasionally but now it's most nights. It's not the joint, not red or swollen so I've ruled out gout or arthritis and it doesn't hurt during the day or stop me doing anything. I was tested a couple of months ago for diabetes during a wellness check and was fine, not even pre diabetic.
I've googled (of course) and I get peripheral neuropathy? Tight shoes?
I mostly wear flip flops around the house and trainers outdoors.
Could it be peripheral neuropathy just in my toe and if so wouldn't this be painful all the time and have spread?

I get strange pains etc..  Also in recent weeks small blisters so am blaming my new shoes  >:( - the blisters/redness is where another toe rubs ...... but the areas aren't sore  :-\

I have changed my footwear for a week 'to see' - R U able to do that?

Yes, I've bought some really comfy supporting trainers and walking isn't a problem, no soreness or sight of anything different with the skin on my toe. Tbe pain feels internal and just during the night. It wakes me up. Putting my foot out of the bed to get cold helps. It's really weird.

Did i read that you go to reflexology ? has something happened there ?  Acupuncture might help with the pain or pin point a reason hot burning points i think can be trigger points.

Going to Reflexology this afternoon so hopefully she will beable to help. The toe was hurting before I started Reflexology, it's been on and off for a while. It's been so helpful with other ailments, I don't suffer with heartburn anymore and she sorted my sore bum! Via my feet...
My anxiety had reduced so much also but this toe thing has set it off again.

I dont wear anything else in the summer and walk for miles, never been a problem. I do struggle to then wear shoes and boots when it gets colder, i think my feet must spread and then they hate being confined.

That's a common problem, feet do spread when not confined.  They also spread as oestrogen levels drop = fallen arches.  Could you buy half a size larger to see if it helps?

What did U get told this afternoon?

The reflexologist said it's nerve damage, worked on all the necessary bits on my feet so fingers crossed it will help. Tight fitting shoes that I have now suddenly outgrown, hopefully it will repair itself soon.

My big toe was very painful due to a corn under the nail (caused by my walking shoes), Dierdre - very painful too!  Hopefully it resolves for you soon…

I hated my school shoes (it didn’t help that I had huge feet!). I’ll tell you what I also hated - the navy blue pants and horrible gym shoes that we were forced to wear - oh the shame!  ;D
