Ovestin 1mg cream
« on: February 16, 2023, 10:49:14 AM »

Morning ladies, looking for some of your wise advice.  I have been using Ovestin 1mg for approx 6 months now, and to be honest I am not seeing any difference.  The reason I take it is because I find sex so sore.  It stings and feels like broken glass up inside.  Just very very dry.  Im not really particularly dry outside and just suffer a bit rawness and itching occasionally.  Is there a higher dose available or should I be looking to use something else?

Thank you!

I know this is not what you will want to hear but I think having sex while sore is stopping your skin from healing. I know it is not nice but could you wait until your skin improves? Other then Ovestin there is also Vagifem and Imvaggis. Are you using Ovestin daily? Using daily is more helpful too. You may also find vaginal moisturisers helpful through out the day. Yes and Sylk are popular ones.

Jaypo, no I haven't tried Vagifem so i will ask for that next.  Flossieteacake, believe you me, it's had plenty time to heal!
It has been almost impossible for me to be intimate at all.

VA doesn't 'have plenty of time to heal'.  It's an ongoing process of treatment to replace oestrogen which will plump up the vaginal tissues.  I suggest using every night for at least 3 weeks as well as getting 'vagifem'.  Any friction in the area will cause any thin skin to feel irritated.

Holidaylover, am I right in saying you started Ovestin in September? I checked through your posts so find out how long you have been on it for. If this is the case then I notice many members saying it took them a year before they felt much better. I would say 5 months is still early (in my experience) and using it daily will be more helpful too.

Thanks, I am only using twice a week as advised and wasn't sure if I could use it more frequently.  Still unsure of side effects because the leaflet provided in the box obviously doesn't really relate, but at the same time is very scary.  In fact, when I first got it I was nearly put right off.

I know the leaflet is scary but I honestly think the leaflet is outdated. I use Ovestin daily and have done for two years now. Now that I know you have been using it twice a week and for five months I feel very positive for you. I think you will see much more improvement using it daily. :)

Agree with Flossie, you can increase the dosage,I used to use vagifem 4 x weekly and it's only supposed to be 2 x weekly but the Dr gave me the go ahead,I'd ask your GP to change the prescription,so you can reorder it as and when

You're not going to find any improvement in your condition using Ovestin only twice a week, it has to be every day until you think you can reduce the dose, and that can take months of using to a year and over.

My GP was happy for me to use my VA treatment on a daily basis, If the Ovestin suits you, use it every day.

Dr Newsom is trying to get the outdated info in the leaflet for vaginal treatment altered.  Use nightly for as long as necessary.
