2 week gynae referral, worried!
« on: February 07, 2023, 05:11:13 PM »

Hi everyone!

I had an early menopause so have been on HRT for nearly 20 years with no problems. I have  always had a bit of what I would call normal discharge but it has become a bit watery at times. I have had an appointment with a nurse practitioner who examined me with two different sized instruments and both were very painful and also an internal without an instrument! She said that I had bled more than was usual (personally I’m not surprised) swabs were taken, it was all very uncomfortable. So she has now referred me to gynaecologist to check it out.

Would the examination itself have caused bleeding, I haven’t had any before? I had blood tests including CA25 and a pelvic and trans vaginal scan in October as I was worried about low pain on one side and all was good. It is thought the pain was referred pain from my hip.

I suffer terribly with health anxiety and today has made me very frightened. Surely something of concern would have shown with scan? I am up to date with smear tests, all clear, they have never been so painful as this.

Just wondering if anyone else has experience of this. Was beside myself but have managed to calm down!

Thank you for reading.

Do you have treatment for VA? That can cause bleeding particularly after being prodded.

Hi thank you for replying.

No, I have never had VA treatment and was wondering if this is what I needed as I do have bladder irritability at times. This was one of the reasons I went to the surgery.

Hello Fizz and welcome to the forum. I am so sorry you had such an awful examination. Watery discharge is a symptom if VA. I have it a lot especially at night. I am sad you have been on HRT but nobody gave you anything for VA. I believe it is likely you bled due to your tissues being thin from VA. All you would need is localised oestrogen and some vaginal moisturiser will help too.  :)

Hello Fizz, I had watery discharge with VA, painful examinations and bleeding are very common. Have you had a look down? Definitely sounds like VA, please try not to worry xxx

Sounds like VA from where I"m sitting and the Nurse was wrong in insisting on examination.  What is wrong with these professionals  :bang:

We need to take control of who is allowed to examine us and for which reasons.  Ring your surgery and get some VA treatment: don't be fobbed off, 1 cannot over dose on localised medications so we are able to take 'ovestin' and 'vagifem'.  Let us know how you get on.

Hi, I thought I would update my post as I feel it’s good  to know the outcome of different situations. I had another pelvic and transvaginal scan and then had to wait until today for my gynaecology appointment. The consultant was happy with my scan and asked me if it was okay to examine me, I agreed. During the examination she said she could see a tiny polyp on my cervix which probably caused the bleeding, she asked if I wanted it removed, I said yes. All was done with a bit of discomfort nothing like as bad as before!

I had previously contacted my GP who was happy to prescribe me Vagifem which has improved my situation and the gynaecologist told me to carry on with my HRT and Vagifem as long as was necessary. No follow up needed. Very relieved and feel fully investigated!

Thank you to those who responded to me!😊

Fizz03 that's great news,  panic over, hope things soon settle with the use of Vagifem xx

Hi
I just had an pelvic ultrasound externally and internally. I'm so very nervous. When did you get the results and how many mm was your lining. Why wasn't the cyst picked up with the scan and only picked up with your gyno? How was it removed? Did you need to be sedated? Gosh so nerve wrecking for me.

Thanks kindly.
