New member says hello!
« on: February 01, 2023, 01:28:44 PM »

Hi everyone. I’m 62 and sailed through menopause at 48. I’ve been on HRT for a very short time at 48, but then moved to Canada, where the price was extortion level, so I quit. Since I did t have any symptoms I felt it was OK.
A few years later, I started to experience VA and received Vagifem. Just barely managed to afford it. It helped a lot.

Now I’m back in the UK, and I’ve had some UTIs, which is unusual for me. So I asked if I could have ovestin for the outside, or more Vagifem per month. I was flatly refused both. I could have the VAgifem as I already had it, or the Ovestin. But not both. I just wanted a tube to put on the outside, but noooooo, the book said I couldn’t, so I can’t.

This made me do some research and I’ve decided to go back on HRT systemically, albeit a very low dose. The advantages around bone and heart and longevity seem compelling. But I’m having to go around my (so called) GP. I have no other conditions, take nothing but vitamins, exercise, and no booze or smoking.

So I’m lurking around here so see what others have experienced and what to look for. So far I’m taking 1 pump Oestrogel and 100ml progesterone transdermally. No discernible reactions yet, hope never. I just want the lowest I can get away with, yet have the advantages. Seems the research and recommendations have changed alot in the past few years.

I will continue to lurk, perhaps ask a question or two. Let’s see how I get on. I only wish my doctor would burn that dang book, whatever it is.

Thanks to all for your advice and experiences.

Oh wait, there is one question, Vagifem and Oestrogel, is that OK?

Your GP is so out of date  >:(.  Of course we can have 'vagifem' and 'ovestin' at the same time, GPs are so worried that we might 'overdose'  ::).  Nope.

Ask your Sugery for a referral to a dedicated NHS menopause clinic - not a gynae as they don't know much more - there are waiting lists so better to get on with it sooner rather than later.  One can use 'vagifem' and/or 'ovestin' every night when necessary.

It's OK to mix and match ;-).

Hello and welcome. What a shame your GP does not know you can have both VA treatments.  :(
