Google the British Menopause Society for their contact methods.  Also: look at the pink banner above and click on 'menopause' to see what info is available.

Does the DMannose help?  GPs can be bolshie and lack communication skills.  Which doesn't help as each visit/phone call costs the NHS - instead of actually listening to patients!

No lady is too young to be in peri-menopause.  Some girls never menstruate, some have a few periods then nowt.  Some ladies go into peri 'young' i.e. B4 the GP expects them to have reached the average age of 51.

Is there an e-mail facility ...... ?

Tbh honest I don’t know if the d mannose helps. :(
I’ve only ever had two Dr confirmed UTIS in my life but a whole host of other times where it felt like the worst uti ever but no infection apparently.
When I first went on Vagifem it really helped but this flare has got me worried especially with my urine tests coming back like they did.

I think D-mannose helps when their is a certain bacteria in the urine. I once emailed the company who makes it and they told me they did not think it would work for me. For me all my issues were VA related.

With VA there are times it does flare. It can even flare from stress. I have found switching from baths to showers helpful. I also only wash with emollient. I apply some to the vulva, wash it off in the shower then reapply to act as a barrier. This was advice given to me by a menopause DR. She told me I was making myself more dry by washing with water alone and she was so right.

Like you, I cannot afford to go private so I think the best thing may be to try to talk to the practice manager. If they knew their GPs were so uneducated in menopause then it would help. VA can feel like a UTI especially during a flare.

There is no harm in asking for a urine sample to be sent off if it will put your mind at rest. I would do it as soon as possible as you are worried.

They close the econsulats at 6.30AM! Who on earth is up that early! Not me. ;D

Perhaps you need to be frim with the reception and insist you need an appointment. Not easy, I know.

Hahaha I know right?? 6:30?!
The price you pay for living in a ‘nice’ area  ;D

So I shouldn’t wait to ask for a sample to be sent off? Cause I thought you had to wait like 7 days after finishing the ABs or something? Or have I made that up?  :o ;D

Should it be first pee of the day too?

So many questions hahah!!

If my own urine tests hadn’t come back with what they did I wouldn’t be so bothered I’d just ignore it but the fact they showed something and the Drs didn’t has freaked me out 🤣

Maybe I’ll phone the drs when the open again at 1:30…. :)

Oh and yes I wash with Dermol or cetraben and put a little on to wash with and then again when I get in the bath or shower. I use cetraben everyday to keep it moist.
Lovely hahaha

I think you are right about waiting for the antibiotics to be out your system. I googled it and it seems to be best to wait 7-14 days after taking the last antibiotic. When I have had to do urine samples they just say to do it mid stream. I was never told to make sure it was the first pee of the day.

I can understand you are concerned. I think it will be helpful to call them when they reopen. You have a lot to discuss with them and it sounds like you could really do with an appointment.

Please ask as many questions as you wish to. :)

1st pee of the day mid-stream  ::).  Haven't been told that since the mid-1990s.  Probably when dip sticks arrived?

Get some pain relief down you too.

Just a lil update. I did take the antibiotics and had a major flare in day two of taking them  :o

Finally the Drs sent a sample off to the lab and it came back normal so….I can only guess it was the VA but it might have been a UTI I suppose and the antibiotics cleared it.
Anyway Im feeling better now but still got the symptoms just not as bad most days  :) :)

I am so pleased you are feeling better. Keep up with the VA treatment as it will keep the VA stable.

Thank you! I will! I had let my skin care routine ‘down there’ go a bit as I was put on lidocaine gel for vulvodynia but oh well anyway I’m hoping if I keep up with it now it’ll be ok.
Also I’m going to try to switch to using the Vagifem at night instead of in the morning and see if that helps :)
