New and no clue
« on: January 13, 2023, 04:49:16 PM »

Hi all,

I'm 43 and have been having changes to my menstrual cycle for about 12/18 months which didn't really bother me. Then about 6 months ago I started to have headaches before my period, bad breath and bleeding gums (which dentist has said isn't teeth related.

But about 3/4 months ago I started getting angry and easily annoyed before my periods as well as not sleeping due to being very warm and sometime waking up covered in sweat. So j finally went to the GP yesterday.

She was very good and said that because I'm under 45 they need to do blood tests so are going to do hormones and complete health check. I said that my mum was around my age possibly younger when she started menopause so GP has said my symptoms are likely to be that. So have to wait for blood results but she has suggested this website to do some research on HRT and other things around menopause prior to our next appointment but to be honest I have no idea where to start.

Thanks in advance.

Dentists often aren't clued up on menopause either  ::). Gum conditions can become noticeable as oestrogen levels drop as the gums recede and teeth become loose.

:welcomemm:  Browse round.  Make notes.  MayB keep a mood/food/symptom diary to chart progress.

A full blood count to include VitD levels and thyroid function is a good starting point. Hormonal blood tests are reliably un-reliable  ::).  Let us know how you get on.

No one is too young to be peri-menopausal ;-)

Hello Kaz and welcome to the forum. It is great your GP knows about this forum and also took into consideration when your mum had her menopause. I can understand the confusion. I would start by just browsing the threads on here. There is no rush to learn it all and you will find a lot of support. :)
