Stopping HRT
« on: January 04, 2023, 08:12:27 AM »

Morning all

After a rough ride I’ve made the decision to stop HRT.

I was given zoladex in December 2021 after my endometriosis removal which but me into medically induced menopause. I started HRT at the same time. By February 2022 we decided to stop the zoladex as the side effects were debilitating (neck and joint pain and migraines).

HRT was also stopped but restarted in May as I was still experiencing the joint pain and getting hit sweats. So the gynaecologist thought that my own hormones hadn’t regained the right levels.

It’s now January 2033 and I feel horrid. Crying all the time, aching and feel sick. I’m therefore thinking that maybe my own hormones have finally reached normal levels so I don’t need HRT anymore.

So my question is, do I just stop HRT or do I wait for my period then stop?

Hello,

I would just stop I think. Be prepared for a period of adjustment with some symptoms of lower oestrogen than you are used to though I guess. They say any dose change (including stopping) needs three months before you can properly assess results.

Good luck! Hope you feel better soon

I wouldn't stop all at once.  Is there any info in the leaflet in the box?  Or ask a Pharmacist??

Sorry that HRT has made you feel so ill.  No medication is worth that!  Let us know how you get on.
