estraderm 50 patches
« on: October 12, 2022, 07:54:17 AM »

morning everyone.

I've been on my estraderm patches initially 25's patch and a half since sept. And everything's been good, anxiety levels going down sleep getting better.

I went up from 37.5mcg to 50 on Sunday been fine on it, however  last night sleep wasn't great at all and I have noticed my anxiety levels were raised as well which impacts my sleep.

I noticed that my patch felt 'dry' it just didn't feel right, I had put some first aid tape on the edges of it as estraderm patches aren't great for sticking, so I took it off in the middle of the night and put a new patch on, only this time I put a breathable dressing over it as I used to do with my old patches.

Does anyone know why the patch felt 'dry ? Maybe I just needed to cover it with the dressings as I have been doing?

I just want to ensure that I am absorbing this new patch okay.

Thanks for any replies xxx

Hello Discogirl. Whenever I have removed a patch they have always felt dry. Perhaps it is our skin cells covering the patch hence making it feel dry. You have now put a new patch on and used a breathable dressing so hopefully this one will stick well. :)

Hi Flossieteacake,

I have actually just found this regarding patches:

It is important to keep in mind that you should not rotate between abdomen and buttocks or abdomen and thigh, as absorption is 20% higher on the buttocks and thigh than it is on the abdomen.

Something important for estrogen patch users to be aware of is heat and estrogen patches do not mix well and thus patches should not be exposed directly to heat. The reason being that direct exposure to heat causes the patch to release more estrogen, more quickly. This effect is known as “Patch Dumping” and can result in the patch quite literally dumping its estrogen content into your body at an accelerated rate

So I was putting it on my tummy, I used to wear it on my bum, however given from this hrt website it seems to indicate that actually wearing it on bum absorbtion is 20% higher, and I also wondered I went in the shower yesterday, it was quite hot and I'm wondering if that caused the patch to 'dump' at an accelerated rate. I've covered it now with a breathable dressing.

Thanks for your reply Flossieteacake, I always enjoy a chat with you xxx

I have heard of oestrogen dumping and noticed I always felt awful after having a bath. I think the heat caused the patches to dump the oestrogen. I switched to showers and never had the issue again.

Interesting they say not to put patches on the abdomen. I have not tried putting a patch there as I was sure it would come off due to my big tummy. ;D

I hope the patch will be okay now that you are going to put it on your thigh. I put mine on my lower back as they seem to last longer there.

I always enjoy chatting to you too.  :)

Well I might go back to my bum as I think the patch may rub if I put it on my thigh xxx

Good plan. They will not stay on my thigh either.
