Don’t know what to do for the best!
« on: October 07, 2022, 12:05:56 PM »

Hi all! Wondering if anyone could shed some light on my situation…

I have been using 1.5 Everol patch for a couple of weeks now with 100mg Utrogestan continuously orally.  I’m still in peri and doc agreed a while ago to let me go on to semi continuous as I was struggling with the progesterone crashes on cyclical. So I just have 3 days off. Only been taking it continuously for almost 2 months and the first month was fine and I love the steady dose of Utrogestan. I feel so calm on it.

Problem is, i started with a really heavy period yesterday which is 11 days before it’s scheduled to start. So I’m wondering whether I should take 200mg Utrogestan to curb the bleeding as maybe I’m having too much Estrogen? Or do I just go back down to the 25mg patch so the bleeding calms down? The Estrogen defo helps my aches and anxiety so I’d like to stay on 1.5 but I don’t want to have a period every couple of weeks! But is this even a period or ‘breakthrough bleeding’? It feels very much like a normal period.

Thank you in advance  :-*

I think that some regimes cause a bleed for about 3-4 months B4 the body settles.

Hi Smurph,

As you only changed your regime 2 months ago and this is only your second bleed, i would wait a while before changing anything. it is common to have an altered pattern when things are changed. If this is still a problem in another few months then i would definitely consider if you are on the right pattern for you. I think there are some women on here who like you prefer the progesterone daily while still in peri, or who have endometriosis and need to take the progesterone daily so hopefully one may see your post and be more knowledgable.

Thanks CLKD, I’m just wondering whether I carry on taking the Utrogestan even tho my period has started? Or do I stop and start a new cycle again? X

Put the product name into the search box to see what pops up, make notes ;-).  There will be others on a similar regime.  Does it say in the leaflet in the box?

Hi continue with the Utrogestan regardless of bleeding.

It sounds like your body is not ready for this regime and you’d be better on a Sequi regime taking 200mg of Utrogestan for 12 days. x

hi Smurph,

My "period" starts on day 8 of the utro every month. initially I tried stopping utro then and counting it as day 1 but it made no difference the next month was on day 8 of the utro again. i looked up and found that generally we are told to keep taking the utro for 12 days as that is the recommended dose to keep our womb lining down so thats what I do, I keep going with the utro for the 12 days even after my period finishes.

Thanks Dotty, I am just continuing after doing a bit of digging. I’m hoping I’ll adjust to continuous eventually as I can’t  hack the low mood when I come off Utrogestan. I was on cyclical for about 4 months and it was awful every month. Wish me luck!  :)

Hi Ecl, thanks for that - I have just continued taking it.

Thats interesting. I wonder if it’s your own (irregular) period kicking in? Do you take 100 or 200mg?

I don’t really have any advice I’m afraid but I would be interested to know the symptoms you experienced after stopping progesterone each month. I’m not sure if this is what’s happening to me.

Hi Smurph,

I take 200 for 12 days. But no its not my own period kicking in. They were down to every three months before I started HRT. I dont know why I tart on day 8 but it is regular so no one is concerned. I dont know if it means its working really well or not very well but it does make me have a period every month so I think thats ok.

Hey! I felt ok the day after stopping but by day 2-3 I’d be miserable. Very low mood and anxious. It went on for over a week! Utrogestan gives me a such a sense of well-being. I’m desperate for this continuous regime to work I’m really tempted to ul my Utrogestan to 200 a day just to balance it out and kerb the bleeding or even drop my Everol back down. Completely in 2 minds as it’s hard to know what to do when you’re peri and your own hormones are all over the shop.

What are your symptoms when stopping Utrogestan? x

Morning Smurph, when I’m on utrogestan I start to feel mentally stronger as the days go by, often get a migraine. Then I stop after 10 days, have a bleed and mood plummets with lots of uncontrollable crying, horrendous anxiety. Not sure if it’s progesterone withdrawal as I am all over the place with anxiety and crying so keeping notes to see if it is always worse after stopping utrogestan. I want to go back to femseven conti as I felt better on that but gp stopped it as I was only 52. I’m now nearly 54 and surely must have gone through peri by now!? I started with symptoms at age 37 ffs 🤦🏻‍♀️.  I’m not sure why you can have the mirena coil delivering constant progesterone but not a continuous regime of conti or utrogestan whilst still having a womb…?
