Dear All,
I have just been to a new gynaecologist here in Italy specialised in menopause and HRT. As someone who started skipping with terrible hot flushes and very high FSH at 42, I was put on HRT (first Utrogestan and Elleste, then on Evorel Sequi) back in 2016, I needed a check up. All well with my reproductive organs, other than vaginal dryness and zero libido.
She therefore recommended Tibolone, a HRT therapy, which (quoting from the leaflet available online):
Livial is different from other HRT. Instead of actual hormones (such as oestrogen and progestogen) it contains tibolone. Your body breaks down tibolone to make hormones. Its effects and benefits are similar to combined HRT.
I see that this is what is given to post-menopausal women. I am 50 this year and wonder whether this is the right path to go into. Her argument seems right to me: if I've been peri- since 42, by now I'm probably at the stage where I can start with combined HRT. I remember Hurdity saying that this is a guess and sometimes can be a wild guess, but this gynaecologist has reviewed my clinical profile, so it's not such a wild guess.
Has anyone had experience with Tibolone? I see nothing on this forum in a search, not even its brand names. But I suspect this is because different countries have access to different HRTs (in Italy, they no longer use the Evorel patches!).
All best to everyone and take care
