new to HRT - lasted 18 hours with evorel 50 patch
« on: September 12, 2022, 10:00:26 AM »

Hi there

I am 50 and having a very unpredictable set of symptoms that come and go. What pushed me to HRT was the aches and pains (muscles as well as joints) and bizarre anxiety.

I got prescribed Evorel 50/conti (ie oestrogen then oestrogen and progesterone as still having periods). I'd just missed a period and it said if your periods are irregular start any time, so I slapped one on (the oestrogen only patch that you do for the first 2 weeks).

Felt alright, possible flush of something good, then by evening was totally wired, couldn't sleep, pored over clickbait on the internet for HOURS in a way that I associate with a younger self but not in a good way. By morning was so furious and irritable and angry. Saw a slight pink flush on the pants, like a period was trying to start. Thought uh-oh this really isn't working. Took the patch off.

Within about half an hour the period arrived and it was gushing.

Continued to be very wired for about 36 hours then had a crash and felt very depressed.

Having read up on this forum I take it this is an overdose of oestrogen.

I am super sensitive to chemicals that I put in my body as well as my own natural hormones, it's genetic I think - antihistamines put me in a coma, steroids make me angry, pregnancy made me massively depressed, I always had terrible PMT, I once took androgen blockers for PCOS and got incredibly depressed with suicidal ideation.

So that was too much oestrogen clearly.

BUT my joints did feel a bit better even from just 18 hours. So I don't want to give up.

I obviously need super -low doses to start off with.

I was wondering if I could just cut the patches into slivers and slowly build up. \

Also anyone out there similar?

Hello HazelnutMilk. Welcome to the forum. I am really sorry to read what a reaction you had to this. Somebody will be along to let you know if you can cut your patch in half. Another possibility is starting with the lowest dose of oestrogen patch and just seeing how you find that. Once you know if you can tolerate it then you can try adding progesterone.
